It’s probably not going to cause any immediate health problems, but there seems to be growing support for lower basking temps than that. Just something worth considering. Lots of folks advise a humidity that fluctuates from low during the day to high at night. Should you worry if your ambient temps hit 78 sometimes: likely not. Is consistent exposure to temps above what is recommended a compromise? Probably.
That's what mine are during the worst summer days. It's not ideal but on those days I have to turn the heat lamp off because it gets too hot. You can get an AC unit for the chameleon room if you're worried about it.
Thank you! (They say memory is the first thing to go, but I forget what's next... )
Looking at some Madagascar climate data (which can be fine-tuned for his locale), using Ambilobe as a reference (because that's where mine is from... )
In Ambilobe, the wet season is oppressive and overcast; the dry season is humid, windy, and mostly clear; and it is hot year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 64°F to 93°F and is rarely below 61°F or above 96°F. https://weatherspark.com/y/104776/Average-Weather-in-Ambilobe-Madagascar-Year-Round
