okay everyone, brace yourselves...this veiled is ridden with mbd, can tell from the back legs. one leg is completely useless, so HE (yes, he) holds onto his tail with it, his other leg is semi useless, BUT he climbs great, has a little trouble, but lemmie tell you, he was climbing all over my hand like a nut! along with this, the lady who bought him from petco has burned him with her foul care, but healthy scales are growing back, also, on his right side there a bunch of irregular bumps, i do not think these are parasites, due to the fact they do not move, but possibly broken ribs from a fall (but i could be wrong), also, while holding him he fell asleep quite a few times, but i understand the room i was in was not well lighted, but in his cage he has a nice uvb light and heat light appropriately placed for no more burns and did not see him sleeping in there at all. he is getting used to being misted and has the best calcium gutloaded crix and dubia anyone could ever ask for! he is a feisty little bugger and was hissing and trying to bite me when i took him out, but calmed down after a little, we put him in a separate tank full of crickets and he ate to his little hearts desire <3 he pooped on my hand after that -.- and indeed it was slimy and smelly..he will be going to the vet in the next week, my friend is having a hard time finding an educated vet to treat a chameleon. so, hopefully this little guy pulls through because the guy that has him now is absolutely in love with him and will spoil him rotten, so everyone, welcome, lucky! he may look bad now, but if/when he starts to improve, there will be plenty of prettier pics to come :)

I could be wrong but doesn't MBd take a while to develop? And wouldn't it affect all his bones and not just a couple? Maybe he has atrophy in his back legs or maybe just broken bones from a fall?

he was diagnosed with mbd by a vet while he was still at petco..then they sold him illegally...

It does take a while, but they hide signs of it very well until it's advanced. And it does not have to affect all of the bones. It will eventually, but certain areas can be affected before others.

Good job giving that guy a better life! We need more people like you to save these poor creatures from neglect and abuse.:)

Lucky is so....well, lucky that you rescued him! :) I'm glad to see his colour looks very nice and other than the MBD he looks well! Bless you for saving his life ^__^

just to let everyone know, lucky is doing well and eating like a pig! still having trouble finding a vet though...

Just curious- are you keeping him in a screen enclosure still, or is he in an enclosure a neonate would be put it?

On a side note, glad to see him go into good hands. I am sure he'll get 100% better.

I’ve seen much, much worse. I also question whether he has MBD. His limbs are relatively straight and those brown dirty marks will come off with some decent watering. I know you said that he was vet checked at Petco but was that vet educated beyond the basics about reptiles? Perhaps he wasn’t even checked at all. I certainly don’t believe everything that a Petco says.

Take a look at his spine and lower back, it’s malformed. That indicates either some incubation (spike in temperatures) or genetic (parents not in perfect condition before being bred) problem. That will cause him to not use his back legs not MBD.

I hope you find a decent reptile vet that can definitively confirm things for you.

Good luck,
Trace

he has a ten gallon tank with a ten gallon wire cage add on, on the top..ill take pics, he is fed in a different enclosure, but he climbs around his home like a little monkey :p

at this point, anything and everything could be wrong with him :/ as soon as we find a vet, ill keep u updated :) and those brown marks are burns..they wont go away till he sheds, right?

Those aren't burns. If that were true the spots would be on the areas closest to the offending lamp like the top of his spine, casque, knees and elbows. Honestly it looks like dried blood or some other grime. Try taking a wet q-tip to the areas on his face and casque and see if it comes off with a little rubbing.

but they are all over his spine, and one side of his casque, depending on how he basked..just not his elbows and knees..the lady that had him, had him in a ten gallon tank with a screen lid and a probably a huge dome lamp, and half drowned him :/ next time i see him ill try and rub them, but in person they look like burns..

those look more brown..a burn is flat black. my poor female decided to climb up some wires and stick her head on a lightbulb. a big burn is on her casque now :( i moved the light but the damage is done.(burns dont always mean someone dumb or bad owned them) i'd do what trace says an qtip them. i did thst for clairs burn anyways to keep takeing off dead/dyeing sin and treat it with burn meds. it looks aot better and had reduced a little.

So what kind of vet checked it out? Just a small animal or herp specific? If I need a vet I go to the the vet school at UTK, they are reasonable I'm not sure of there is anything similar in your area but I'm still questioning MBD I am by no means an expert but I agree it could be a genetic deformity maybe. Hope you find out so you can handle it accordingly.

the only place around that we have found is the blair animal hospital..and they are super pricey..so were trying to find another place..but worst comes to worst he will be taken there :/

It sucks you can't send it mail order to a good herp vet and have him shipped back but I reckon that would add unnecessary expense and stress on the animal.
