The Truth

Fluxlizard: you must be automated on the hydro. personally i spend atleast 10 minutes before my "chameleons" cages each day. all the other animals in my care that needs misted. also gets manual mistings and nothing so far can compare. i cant say anything about the dusting or cricket gutload as all my animals get it and its just good practice for all. again chams are not hard, but time consuming. unless you have something doing the work you opt. out of.

Ryan: Fair enough "truth based on your experience". we all do care for an animal differently and possibly ball pythons, redfoot tortoises, carpet pythons, leopard geckos, crested geckos, gargoyle geckos, pixi frogs, Aussie bluetonge skinks, pink tongue skinks , uromastyx, a beaded lizard, some day geckos, maddy hognose, western hognose snakes, pictus geckos, Nephurus geckos, viper geckos, diplo and strophurus geckos, bearded dragons, tegus manually take more time.

nice collection btw. how long have you been breeding reptiles?

What your saying is true and applies to most people. However, a lot of people come through these forums it seems who have half dead chameleons as a result of their "care" and when you're like "take it to a vet" they're like "lol but its a four hour drive lol thats so boring lol i don't feel like it lol"

I think that type of stuff is what makes people overcompensate and give people really conservative advice when it comes to owning and breeding chameleons. I mean, I myself went against advice I had seen here about buying/owning/breeding and my chameleons are both healthy and good, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to anyone who comes through here just based off of the number of people who post "i baut a femail n bread her so she wudnt bcum eggbund n then she try n dig throo her cage and i waz like lol chameleon but now she is laing on the floor n not breethin lol y she do that? lol vet is far away lol. lol. lol. can i uze a peenut butter jar 4 a laying bin? lol ynot? ok wat abt a shoe? lol nvm shes dead. :("

You fell apart about half way through. :D You were using complete sentences and everything the first part.

I think I get your point.

I have only been breeding for about 3.5 years. Have had many pets too.
Between my wife and I we spend about an average of 4-5 hours a day. (split between us) on care for our animals. We have furry ones two.

My statements may be "truth" but they were not very detailed. It takes a desire to learn and motivation to stay dedicated to what ever animal. My point on them being easy to care for was based on this. With the correct information a chameleon of any species is no harder to take care of than any other animal. The key is getting the correct information and applying the information to the care of the animal.

I can't tell you how many people I have to convince that a chameleon is a good pet for them. They always say. "I hear they are hard and die easy"

The basic care of

Set up cage , lights on , lights off and mist 3 times a day is not that hard.

The next step of put two chameleons together and watch them breed, separate, make laying bin , put it in , female lays eggs , wait a crap load of time. Not any harder than a ball python. Different but not "harder".

Stuff happens that are out of someones control nothing anyone can control no matter how hard they try. The dedicated ones usually have success as long as it's in their control. The ones who have failed don't always tell the "truth" even the right information doesn't help them.

agree but many people take "time spent on a animals care" when it is time consuming, hard. i own a pet shop and have heard the very words you are saying many times over. everyone looks for what i call easy pets "which in my opinion are most reptiles". many people start to hear my care on bearded dragons and start to shrivel. i love to see the faces when i tell them about chameleons. you would think i was talking them out of owning one :/

Reminds me of how terribly most people take care of their furry pets too! Darn these fat and aggressive dogs!

LMAO RYAN :p

i missed threads like these, haha whats fun without alittle "discussion" going around

but like Cain posted , where is the "like" button:rolleyes:

you stated pretty simple truths, but i feel most people knew it, but werent , per say "brave" enough to go and post it on the forums haha

Wate a minut, i rote this leter in, are you making phun of me!

[, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to anyone who comes through here just based off of the number of people who post "i baut a femail n bread her so she wudnt bcum eggbund n then she try n dig throo her cage and i waz like lol chameleon but now she is laing on the floor n not breethin lol y she do that? lol vet is far away lol. lol. lol. can i uze a peenut butter jar 4 a laying bin? lol ynot? ok wat abt a shoe? lol nvm shes dead. :("[/QUOTE]

dagy24 - that quote has properly had me laughing fit to pee myself!!! :D
I belong to a couple of other forums and it's always the same thing. People pop along to ask for basic advice, using text speak or difficult to interpret words and it's so sad for the poor animals in these peoples care.

ryan this post has made me much more at ease with what i feed my lil feller. and for that good sir i thank you.:)

I like that "truth" now has quotation marks, :). Not deep, spiritual truths - but the kind of practical 'awareness' that long years of experience bring.
Of course the fact that it's 'different' to a ball python is what makes it 'harder' for most people, lol. To most people the python is a bit exotic.
When I was taking my first Anole home on the bus some old woman asked me if it was a Crocodile!
A Chameleon is not a good starter herp really (unless you have good care advice and join this forum.....:D). So what is true for most of "us" isn't quite as true for "them"

So in summary, some people (present company excepted) are stupid, lazy and cruel. These ones shouldn't look after chameleons, dogs or even children

Yes, all the mean people who look after their animals and speak English are making fun of you:)
I can use the quoting button properly too, ;)
