The Yellow-lip Parson's are starting to hatch...

I checked on the Yellow-lip eggs about 20 minutes ago and saw a baby at the front-end of one of the bins. I looked over at my wife who was sitting in my office and as soon as our eyes met she asked, "Did they hatch?!"

It seemed unreal--so many unknowns, operating on blind faith. So much tedious work, time, effort...finally coming to fruition. Who knows how many more, if any, will hatch. Regardless, it sure feels rewarding right now.

I'll keep you all updated.

One of my employees is better at photography so I had her take a picture of one. I put together four baby cham cages from Dragon Strand and all three are camping out under the UVB bulbs currently.

In exchange I'll share a little known trick I used decades ago for growing baby lizards (all types)

I'm sure somebody will argue, it's the internet after all, but instead of using baby crickets use baby roaches. I'm not going to list all the numbers and species I used this diet on while pursuing a better nutrition regimen in the late 80's for my captive critters, but I saw distinct differences between those fed baby crickets and those fed baby roaches. Both were gut loaded the same and back then I used Reptivite since that was the thing back then.

The babies on the baby roaches grew a lot faster, my dad wasn't happy since it resulted in me having roaches in the garage, but my critters were growing. . . .

Yes, she arrived to me gravid. It's a funny story actually...

I love chams, that's no secret, and one of my vendors knows that. So, he was saying he had a trio of Yellow-lips and that one of the females was super plump and "potentially gravid." Now, I knew he was just trying to get me to buy the female--I knew that--so I had him send me pics and I actually did think she looked gravid, although I'd never bred a Parson's so I really didn't know what a gravid Parson's looked like.

At the end of the day, I bought her, and a huge male. When she finally laid eggs for me a few weeks after I'd received her, and I called my vendor to let him know the good news, all he said was, "Are you serious????" The disbelief in his voice was palpable. So, I was then convinced it was all just a sales pitch and he didn't really believe she was gravid in the first place. That or he didn't think she'd lay successfully.
