thermometer and hygrometer

I am planning on getting a new chameleon in the late spring early summer. Right around the time I lost both of my boys, my thermometers and hygrometers both crapped out. So I thought before I invest in a new animal I would replace these pieces of equipment. Asking for opinions on the most reliable products. Thanks.

I have tried so many different makes/models over the years, that iv'e lost count. These range from +1 to +5 degrees in differing measurements between units. Sometimes even the same make/model can be out by a few degrees. I tend to use ones made for human applications, rather than reptile ones, i.e fridge thermometers, baby room ones, etc, when i initially set up an enclosure. I just find the reptile ones too inaccurate, be they the dial type or digital.

Most hygrometers on the consumer market are pure crap!!
I also have lost count how many I have tried, and have even bought the same
crappy model twice!!

Go to Amazon and do some reading, pick one that is calibrated, with a certificate. Also, make sure you can calibrate it yourself, and they give you
a procedure.

Digital therms with the probe are less problem, they do very by a few degrees,
but not way off like hygrometers.

That said, I have a wall mount unit made by Caliber. It has digital temp and analog RH%. It cost a few 100$$, and they don't make this model anymore,
but Caliber does make good ones, so does Taylor.

If on a budget (and who isn't!!) Extech Instruments makes good calibratable hygro/therm combo units.
Caliber also has a inexpensive, small hygro that can be mounted with magnet to the inside of cages.
I have gotten a few bad ones though, but they are cheap, and most ppl have no complaints. They are easy to calibrate as well.
