If your thermometer works right then 5 minutes should be accurate and you need to back that temp down pronto-way too hot.. What bulb are you using?

You should either move the lamp further from the basking spot or if that is impossible, drop the bulb wattage.

What kind of cham do you have and what age?

aahhh.. that explains it.
with Cali's wacky summer weather, you'll benefit from using 50 watt.
and raising the bulb about 3 - 4 inches.
(even with that, you can still get the temp rise to 95 F occasionally during hot day).
Lucky for us this year is quite cool compared with last year.

Keep the 75 watt for winter.

ok thanks for the advice ..here is a pic of my cage any suggestions??

i have one but it fell down in the pic. i will probobly just buy another ficus and put them side by side

Here's a simple set up example.

the white tub on the bottom is a pot with holes on it. If you notice, there is a vine that goes all the way to the bottom, in case my chameleon decided to venture all the way, he will have a mean to get back up.
the sterilite in the bottom also has holes.

I have a bucket underneath to catch the drainage water.
There is no standing water of any kind in my setup to avoid bacteria build up.

Looks like a Kammer setup, are you getting your cham from Chameleons only?

As far as the setup ,I would agree more plants. Your little guy will be much happier with hiding places. Do you have a dripper? If you got it from the Kammers I am guessing you do.

I would even add some bio vine (Fake Vine) you can get it at almost any pet store.

dodolah , nice setup! I love the pot in the cage, I think I will steal that one.

Why the dripper with the misting system? Just curious.

dripper is on occasionally when i feel that he's not drinking enough.
Plus, I used the drippers more often for watering my hibiscus.

I set up my mister in such a way that there is area that will still dry after misting.
That area is where my chameleon is perching at the pics.
The feeder cup stays dry during misting to avoid drowning the insects.
I free range my crix.

The cup is usually for insects that can't maneuver its way on a vine. such as phoenix worms.

feel free to steal the ideas if you think it will make your life easier. :)
