Thinking about breeding my Male Panther

I am thinking about picking up a female Nosy Be for my Male to breed with. My question is how many babies (eggs) should I expect them to produce? and how often can I breed them?

Please read up before you start. Mine layed 35 to 40 ever 60 days 4 times after just one breeding I could not stop her once she started and it finally killer her. On a good note, I just had my very first baby hatch and it is very exciting!

In my opinion, I don't think you should get a female just to breed her. She should be a pet first. Your mentality seems all wrong for breeding, would you treat the babies as if they were just there to make money for you?

That is what most breeders do. They are not pets, they are money. I am going to breed too, does that make me a bad person. Stop pulling from the wild and start breeding! I support breeders as long as it is from the heart. I got into the hobby to help make things better, not worse. So good for that person that wants to breed and support the hobby. :p

I did not say you or him are bad people. If it is from your heart then you care about the animals and don't mind if they are not going to be sold. It isnot that I do not support (ew double negative) breeding, it is that I do not support breeding soley for profit in a careless mannor (which he made it sound like he was doing.) Do you treat your females as if they are baby making machines and are only there to be bred and bred until they die? I would hope not, and that was the mentality that I was trying to steer him away from.

I dont think that was a thought through response . . .
You see people DO buy female chameleons to breed not as a pet. I dont see the logics in buying one and then you have to have it a as a pet before you can breed her ???

Please explain why you said that?

And you have to make money off the babys to recoupe your cost and time it took to get there. You can't just give them away, well you could. People breed to perfect and make money. Sorry, it's the truth.

Making money is fine, but you shouldn't Only want to make money. Thats what I'm getting at. You shouldn't be one of the backyard breeders who doesn't care about the animals and only wants the money however they can get it. I'm just saying that you need to care about the animals, is that wrong? Okay, you buy a female with breeding in mind, but do you only buy her to breed? Do you buy her with the full intention of taking care of her as a pet who you may eventually breed, or do you only buy females to breed andLay eggs but when they die you replace them like they're nothing?

If you support bad breeding, then I don't know what to say. Our opinions may differ and I only type this response because I don't think you understand what I mean, and you will not change my opinion.

By the way, when I say "you" it's not really pointed towards anyone.

If you keep her away from seeing the male, you may be able to keep her from producing eggs at all.

If you control her diet and temperature and such when she is initially creating eggy folicles (ive spelt that wrong) you can keep the clutch size low (15-25) and thus reduce the strain on the female, and thus have a longer living animal. If however you care not about the animal or its longevity, just producing eggs, overfeed her and you can get double the eggs.

I wouldnt breed her every year. But you could. And you could get a couple sets of eggs from each breeding.

I understand, i'm not mad, i agree with you all the way. In my eyes they are to pricey to treat them like sh*t. And i don't think anything should be treated like that, at all!

I agree with you Pssh. I see it all the time with geckos, that people get one gecko and get swept up into the whole breeding thing and just run out to get the first female/male they can just to start a breeding pair. Your animals should be, first and foremost, pets that you love.
