Well today i saw two large redfoot tortoise at a small reptile show. I kinda fell in love with them. i talked to a guy today and he said or climate is perfect for them, and that he has a few.

Can yall help me with the pros and cons? does anyone have one or a few?

Have you tried joining a tortoise/turtle forum to look for information and get input? They can be so helpful. Most of them that I have found are not just tortoise related, but they have a mix of turtle people too. I have found them very helpful. :)

ETA: Here is a link to one if you are interested. http://tortoiseforum.org

Tyler Stewart who is a member here as well as a sponsor would be able to help you. He has Blue Beast Reptiles.

Thanks guys. I was going to email Tyler but I saw on his website that he was on vacation or something like that so i figured i would wait till he got back and ask around here.

Travis, I don't have any experience with redfoots but keep two russians right now. I can tell you tortoises are fun, very personable animals and pretty easy to keep. You do need a lot of room for them outside is best if you can do it.I keep mine indoors(i'm in wisconsin) but i have a 4' x 8' enclosure set up in my basement for them. Russians are a smaller tort you would probably need more for a redfoot as they do get bigger than russians.

I pretty sure Redfoots don't get much bigger than Russians, only a few inchs more

Trying to talk my wife into the Aldabra we have at work, she's not feeling the $3500 price tag;)

One of my boss's has a Galapagos thats about 600lb~

Redfoots get about 12-14 inches (way bigger than any russian tortoise), I raise them outside in central florida almost year round. They make excellent pets that enjoy being around you. As long as you provide plenty of humidity, warmth (natural sunlight or UV bulbs/heat source) redfoots will be a great addition to your collection. If is one of the only species that can handle more fruit than greens.

Don't be impulsive though. Do some research for 6 months at the least,
or even just think about it for 6 months. If you're still in love with them, then
go for it.

Whenever I've been impulsive, getting into new things, it's more of a lust than love.

My personal rule is 'If you still want it a year from now, get it then.'

If only I took that advice before I got into chameleons...

Thanks guys. I don't think i'm going to get into tortoises. Me and my dad would rather find a nice girl for my male panther thats coloring up real nice.
