This is Super Weird-check this out!

How is your girl doing? Is she up on her vines yet? I hope she hangs in there. Boy these guys just when you think you've seen it all. Surpirse. Keep us informed.

good to hear she is doing better.
If it were a stroke or or some thing of that nature I would expect some more permanente dysfunctions to remain. Seizures on the other hand would be transient with an expected near full recovery.

spiders or allergic reactions would also hopefully clear as the body could over come the problem. I guess the time will tell...I hope she pulls through...sounds like you are doing the right things with the hydration...

Good luck

A brain seizure? Kristina has experienced chams with seizures, but I think there was a lot of random movement. I do know that humans can experience seizures that cause them to just slump into a semi-conscious state. Do chameleons have strokes?

This is what im thinking may have happened. Observe her behavior and see if she favors a certain direction while walking or leans

She is still with us and looking OK. I am not going to think she is out of the woods, but am hoping for the best. I will try to feed her in a bit and see how it goes.

Well, now she looks much like yesterday in a catatonic state with the tip of her tongue hanging out. I am not holding out much hope. But the good seems to come with the bad. My first ever living hatchling emerged today-a baby Brev.

I was a vet assistant for 5 years way back when, and while we didn't deal with herps at all, what you are describing sure sounds like the seizures I used to see in furry critters. The way it is coming and going really sounds like she is seizing and then recovering. I have no idea how a vet would treat seizures in a cham???

RIP poor Anky Oustalet. She passed sometime yesterday afternoon. I have a call in to the Vet about a Necropsy. If we can find anything out I will let you all know. My thought is congenital brain issue as it seemed neurological or a blood borne parasite that fecals did not catch.

Juli,

I'm so sorry!
This was definitely one of those situations where you probably could not have helped her.
It's possible that this was predetermined (genetic) but that doesn't make it any better.
We're thinking about you today.

Oh, Juli, I am so sorry. Such a beautiful animal. How heartbreaking.

Thank you. I really thought she was gorgeous!

This morning I switched on all the lights to all the cham cages, and then came back about 20 minutes later to water everyone. I find my younger female Oustalet on her branch but leaning on the screen with her mouth open and tongue hanging slightly out. I checked her airway and it was clear, there is no outward sign of trauma, she ate and drank yesterday as normal. She is WC, so there could be a million issues, but I have had her since March and all has been well-she was a healthy little chameleon. SO-for about a half hour her tongue starts coming out a little more, she does the big open mouth thing that chams do when they are dieing, I consult the experts, and I lay her on papertowel, tongue hanging out a good way (so I moistened with water), and left for a meeting fully expecting her to be dead upon my return. A few hours later my kids call to tell me she is up and looking around. I say WHAT? IS HER TONGUE IN? And when I got home she is upright on the papertowel, normal colors, tongue in, looking around. She has not gone back up into her plants and vines yet, so I doubt we are even close to out of the woods here. WHAT IN THE WORLD????? Past clean fecal, no past issues. I am at a loss. I thought for sure she was a goner (she still may be), but this is TOO WEIRD.

I just hatched a baby quad today that is doing just as described here. When the poor thing was hatching it had its tongue hanging out looking dead. 8 hours later and it's making random movements opening its month and sticking out its tongue. Thais chameleon is pretty big compared to my others ( more blotted).

I'm going to suggest you start a new thread. You can link to this as evidence of another chameleon having the same problem, but it makes it much more straightforward to keep threads devoted to one animal. You should probably complete the How To Ask For Help info.
