.....on a big female dubia!!
He had eaten them this size before, and I cut their legs off because they are so strong and spiky.
These are adult dubia, not nymphs.
I fed one to Noogie and he struggled with it for what seemed to be way too long, part of it was still sticking out of his mouth when he seemed to get anxious to get rid of it!!
He tried pulling it out with his foot, and that's when I steped in to help him.
I had to get hold of the slimy butt end with my fingers and gently pull it out of his mouth with roach guts all over my hand, I succeded and Noogie just looked at me for a long time like he was thinking, 'wow! thanks giant, hairless monkey'

From now on, Noogie just gets the nymphs to eat :)

Oh poor Noogie... yeah, I hope this doesn't happen to Ark. He still has some growing up to do before he gets to try Dubias...

That sounds scary. Glad that Noogle is ok. I don't recommend feeding the large roaches to any chams after what happen to my Parsonii Padre. Just give several smaller ones. We've got to try to keeps these little guys safe. So many things can go wrong.

Oh no!....that sounds like he had a hard time getting that one down and couldn't.....but you were the good dad and put a helping hand in there and didn't care what got on your hand....good job Stan.

argh i know this feeling ... this happened to me once ...but worse ( he saw dubias for the 1st time and the roach was a little to big for him and he got it from the back .... so the female dubia got stuck in this mouth with those tiny hard little wings formation ....the worse part is that he didn't want to let it go..... this took me a lot of time to get it out of his mouth....i had to gently cut the roach .... while he has hissing ,puffing and tail smashing me ... i so scared lol....)

anyway i am glad Noogie is ok ! keep chams away from large insects ! .
its better to give more and small !

Aside from the fact I have a hard time handling roaches myself and that they are difficult to find in Vancouver, I have yet to delve into the world of Dubia's as feeders. I sometimes worry about choking being a problem with the Hornworms my guys eat (I buy them small but after gutloading the damn things grow SO quickly!) but I watch them and am always ready to help when and if needed. Jann, everytime my chams eat a hornworm I look at the point sticking up on the worms butt and ALWAYS think of Padre and the problem that caused his untimely and so very sad demise. Anyways, I'm not so sure I'll be jumping at the chance to feed dubia's, even if I do locate a seller here - besides the 'creep' factor, they are obviously a bit dangerous to our chams as well!
