This story goes back through a lot of heart break for me. I purchased an adult pair of Rio Fuerte Beaded Lizards from Steve Angeli last year. I never caught them breeding but I did find that on 8/13/09 the female had layed 10 perfect eggs, the next day she layed 1 infertile one. I was so excited, this was the first time I had ever bred any reptile and received good eggs! During my first experience with eggs I managed to kill 9 out of 10 of the eggs. I used vermiculite at first. I had way to much air flow which caused my humidity to fluctuate allot. When the humidity dropped down I would add water and eventually I was way to wet! I didn't realize that the egg temp would be higher then what the incubator was set at so my temp was to high! I overnighted some Hatchrite, purchased a new rubbermaid from Walmart and set it back up in the incubator. After speaking to a number of my friends I had finally dialed everything in correctly. I must thank Steve Angeli, Greg Bryant, Ryan Gitman, Mark Lucas, among others that helped me through the incubation process. Without their help I would of never had been able to save the one egg that hatched today 2/21/10, 192 days later. I sold the pair of Beaded's that produced this animal. I just purchased a nice big group of 6 adult Rio Fuerte Beaded Lizards and a pair of Reticulated Gila Monsters. I love these lizards and I plan on keeping them for the rest of my life. The experience of hatching out a little ones was amazing! This is why I first got into reptiles, this is what it's all about! Please enjoy my pictures below:

Wow, look at those patterns... if they were on a jumper they'd look like something out of the 70's :D

Cute baby, good luck with it :D

Aren't they venomous?

Very beautiful baby! Would love to see more CB!!

Yes they are venomous and pack a serious punch! A bite from these guys is completely different then a snake bite though. These guys have a deffensive bite and it's extremely painful but not said to be life threatening.

So I'm guessing it's more for pain(defensive) than death(offensive). Very interesting! Are they defensive like Tokays or can they be handled occasionally?

They are pretty defensive WC but maybe the CB ones would be chill-er.

There aren't any W.C. Beadeds, they are protected throughout their range and have been for years. The adult pair I had were 5 yr olds and had never been handled till I got them. Although deffensive at first after a few months I could put them around my neck. These guys calm right now and can be free handled. Extreme care must still be taken or you risk a very painful bite. A visit to the hospital and a morphine drip would be in order. I have heard of a few people who beat bites out by eatting pain killers but first hand reports basicly said it's almost unbareable!

Oh I envy you mate, what an amazing species to have the pleasure to breed, great learning experience.
Pics of the hatchy look awesome, very attractie baby, nice pics!
Congratulations, heres to many more successful hatchings in the future!
cheers :)

Congrats on the hatchling! It's all a learning experience. I love the beadeds and Gilas, but don't see myself owning any in the foreseeable future.

WOW! That was great, glad Junior made it. Love the pick with the teeny, tiny sharp claw and the dirtly look he is giving you :p

Love these guys enough not to try them out...

Good luck on your future endevours....

Aren't Gila monsters and beaded lizards both on the banned species of animals to legally own? Considering both of them are poisonous anyway. Also i wouldn't put a poisonous lizard on my neck but that may just be me lol.

There is a difference between venomous and poisonous and these are venomous. There is a snake out there that is both poisonous and venomus, I think it's the redbacked keeledneck snake. Anyways, no with the proper paper work and permits these guys are both legal to own. I didn't say it was the smartest thing I've ever done just an example of how calm they can become. Trust me I was on edge for the photo's especially when the big ole male decided he wanted to tongue my neck a few times!
