Today's vet visit for the MBD baby

Hey guys, just got back from the vet. For the ones that didn't read my initial post, this little guy was sent to me by a breeder and he has MBD. The breeder sent me a healthy cham but I decided I wanted to give him a good home and make sure he has a good life.

She injected him with 10% Calcium Gluconate and gave me a bunch of syringes so I can shoot up his phoenix worms with it as well..Since he's so tiny she said the best way to get the C.G. into his system is to inject his food. Also she gave me some dewormer in case he has parasites as well. Little guy is a trooper!

Nope, all of his arms are deformed. His front arms the inner parts are affected. Can't really tell from the side. Here's a pic of his front arm I just snapped:

Poor boy, that's a lot of neglect for a panther so little/young. I'm glad you're giving him a home, and not just that but a good home. We can barely get some people who have had their chameleons for months/years to go to the vet, much less take on a new little guy like this. It's really commendable!

Thanks! I asked in my last thread if someone could chime in to answer why they think he has such a progressed MBD. I didn't know if it was because he was oversupplemented or if since he was the "runt" he was more open to getting it. They all deserve a good chance at life. I couldn't give him back after seeing the condition he was in. He's gonna be awwwwwlright!

He didn't give a direct reason on one came back with MBD. His brother came back perfectly healthy which is weird. He sent me this email:

"My apologies. That does look as MBD, and a mistake was made somewhere here. One of the males had been the runtish of the bunch, and was not supposed to be shipped out. Sometimes, when a cage is opened, the chameleons inside run around, and the wrong one is nabbed. What I can do is send you a proper animal, at no added cost to you, for you to pick up at the UPS Customer Center, 4 miles from you, at this location"

Poor little guy. Thank goodness he has you. If he had went back to the breeder he probably would have went in the trash.

Are you going to do anything different with his enclosure to help him with the issue and prevent falls?

If it escalades to that then yes. He gets around great though in his enclosure right now, climbing upside down, chasing his bugs and shooting his tongue a good length to get them

I'm so happy. Today I gave him his first injected phoenix worm and he ate it out of the cup. I originially expected him not to want to eat it because he's so timid and hasn't warmed up to me, and also it wouldn't be climbing on the screen but he nabbed it right away out of the cup. 1 down, 13 to go!

I think I have narrowed it down to either Ragnar or Bogart. I like Bogart because it means "strong as a bow" (bowed legs, get it?!) But Ragnar just sounds cool, haha!
