Tongue got my thumb

I was feeding my chameleon a hornworm sort of close to his nap time he was getting tucked in but we just got a huge shipment of hornworms so I was excited to get him one. He mistook my thumb for a worm and I’m afraid it may have hurt him? He seems okay and he sort of reeled in and was able to detach, but has this happened to anyone before? Should I be concerned he got my thumb?

Uhh I would not be worried he should be perfectly fine.

It happened with me also several times. If it doesn’t release within a second, I push my finger forward to their mouth with hope it will release somewhere on its way, otherwise it will cause a bite in the finger

BUT, never pull back when this happens! This will cause severe injuries to their tongue

Something similar happened to one of mine before and for about a week or so she wasn’t able to shoot her tongue out far, but then it healed and was fine.
