Tongue issue

My veiled chameleon is maybe 3-4 months old. Her name is izzy and she is a great eater, mainly meal worms. Today I noticed the tip of her tongue red, almost bloody looking. I am pretty concerned because she is eating great but she doesn't use her tongue to the full extent, she will move to get closer to the meal worm so she doesn't need to use her tongue as much. I didn't notice it till today but I'm afraid it hurts her which is why she doesn't seem to be using it all the way.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of this happening?

Maybe she hit something sharp or it got stuck on something? Do you have pictures?

If it is a small cut it may heal on its own, but if it is an infection you would need to see a vet.

I do not have any pictures because she is sleeping right now, I can try tomorrow. The only thing that could be sharp is the clip holding her misting tube onto one of her branches. I think I'm going to make an appt to the vet for this weekend just to be sure.

Hi
Mealworms are not a good choice of feeder prey. Her problem may be related to vitamin deficiency. Did she used to use her tongue to its full length and it slowly got worse, or did she stop using it rather suddenly?

links to info I suggest you read:

Thank you so much for all the suggested food to feed her. We always buy them gut loaded but I know variety is important! She is still using her tongue but it's just not as often as I think she should be using it. It almost looks like she's not confident enough to use it to the full extent, and now seeing the tip of her tongue is red I'm even more concerned so we're taking her in to the vet this weekend.

I would recommend a vet visit to a vet with chameleon experience. My vet would most likely prescribe Medacam for this.

What is medacam? I've also been looking up places to buy other insects for her, and I can't find any local. Do u buy yours online?

Medacam is an anti-inflammatory pain reliever. Yes, I buy all my feeders on line. I would feed her soft feeders such as small silkworm, small hornworms and Butterworms until this clears up.

Thanks I actually found 3 vets on that forum. As for the mulberry site I actually looked on that but just about all the worms I wanted we're sold out.. Any other good online shops?
