Too wet for pathos

My pathos is turning yellow and basically drowning. What can I do? I am no longer watering it and it's still too wet.

I have it in organic soil with rocks on top.

You have to drill holes on the bottom of the pot. I also put medium size rocks in the bottom of the pot...about a half inch deep. That will drain the water out and keep your pothos happy. I have pothos in my cages where the vines are 8 feet long!!!

I would try seeing if you could get the pot it's planted in to drain better.. I usually have a pot with lots of holes on the bottom (sometimes add more). Put a layer or rocks on the bottom, top with a mixture of sand and organic soil, then rocks on top.. Seems to drain very well

I also mix my soil 2:1:.25 soil:sand:activated charcoal. It has helped my plants immeasurable and there I have tons of drainage holes on the bottoms and the sides of my pots.

If it is a pothos vine it has another problem- not drowning. Pothos can be grown in water if you want- I used to have a huge vine growing in my 55 gallon aquarium and draping out all over the floor. The fish swam around in the roots...

I guess though with dirt added if you don't have drainage maybe you don't have oxygen around the roots either like you would with just water...

It could be that you don't have enough light on it as well. You need a 6500k bulb for plants

Me thinks Windex has the real culprit, Pathos love water.

You will get occasional yellow leafs, I get about 4 a week off 2 Pathos that fill 1/2 of my 24x24x48 cages.

Typically when leaves yellow it's caused by a nutrient deficiency, usually nitrogen or magnesium, I believe.

Pothos are known as Devil's Ivy for a reason, they're incredibly difficult to kill! Even in super wet or dark conditions. I would probably bet it's a problem with the soil, or just a matter of adding a little fresh soil to the pot so the plant can feed better.

I think Olimpia has the most likely cause.

I grew/grow pothos in big transluscent storage tubs with crested geckos. The tubs have no light other than ambient room light from an indirect window, yet the pothos still grow (albiet slowly)...

The nice thing about a Pothos is they don't have a high demand for light. That's why they are so popular as a house plant because they can grow in 'house light' and still manage quite well.

I would add a layer of rocks at the bottom, and make your soil a little better for drainage by adding coarse sand to it. Then add rocks on top to prevent sand/soil from being ingested.

I'm going to experiment growing a Pothos in nothing but hydroton when the plant is under a mist king head, and see how it does.

I put a pothos cutting on a piece of tree fern panel. It sits under the raindome, so it gets watered every time the mister goes off. It's growing, but very slowly. I did it just to see if it would grow epiphytically. :)
