Trading Chameleons

My thought on it exactly 100%

Except for the poop stain friendly cham vs nice looking one. I like chams for their unique look and how they eat and climb around. Personally, I could care less if i ever hold mine. It's cool at times, but isn't my reason for keeping one. I also wouldn't have a Parsons chameleon if I wanted one to handle, at best they don't like you, but tolerate. At worst you have a giant angry chameleon that could do some damage lmao.

Just my opinion on it though!
I agree mostly... except for when it comes time to need to get in the enclosure to clean, or it's time for a vet visit, or even the split second your hands are in there to dump food into the feeder... I prefer to not fear for my appendages :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: not all of us can have awesome outdoor bioactive setups where you hardly have to do anything with the enclosure, James!

Good point on cleaning lol. Reminds me of the tree boas. I think they are so beautiful and would love to keep one, but they are apparently monsters to deal with and have a mouth full of razor blades. Don't think I'd want to deal with that.

And hey! I have put my time in with many enclosures and an aggressive chameleon lol.

Sorry OP, I'm getting off task. Too much caffeine

@Nicholashubbs410 I think he is a stunner! I also think we have no right to tell you what to do. If your not happy then your not happy.

But my 2 cents... The grass is not always greener on the other side. TRUST ME. While I did not trade one. I got one because I was desperate to have the local since I have the standard Male Veiled now. I wanted a Nosy Be Panther. So after months of dreaming about them, I finally got my "crown jewel" and he came with health issues and passed away within weeks.

So just keep in mind this one likes you which is a huge plus. You don't know what you would be getting if you traded or sold him and got another. There are no guarantees in personality. :)

Oh man that's some setup porn if I ever did see some, you're making us drool James!

Emerald tree boas and green tree pythons are my absolute FAVORITE snakes. Ever since my mom read my that kids book about the python that doesnt want to be green.... yeah that one. I think my goal as a reptile keeper is to eventually have one, but yeah they are crazy mean and lots of razors lol

I dont think you have anything to feel bad for. You're being honest in your intentions, which is more than you can say for most. You're trying to do the responsible thing and think long term. I know that chams dont form bonds so it doesnt matter for them, but humans form bonds. If you dont end up forming a bond with this cham, how can you force yourself to care enough to take care of it every day, right? Kind of like a mama seal who doesnt recognize the baby as her own... she stops caring for it and the baby eventually dies. Weird comparison? Maybe :ROFLMAO:
What I'm trying to say is I get where you're coming from. With that being said, James is right that your tamatave is beautifully unique. You dont see it often and that alone makes it beautiful. Ambiboles are everywhere and eventually you might realize that you wanted something more special. Plus, the fact that your cham has a calm demeanor is so important! I would rather have a poop stain cham than a rainbow cham if it meant it didnt mind being handled and was cool coming out more often lol. Maybe give it a little time and see if you do realize that you really appreciate the colors your boy has to show you before you jump the gun.

Not sure I agree with chams not forming bonds. There is no doubt at all that Bob has and has his own pecking order of who he wants to hang out with. Thankfully I'm top of his list.

I don't post pics or videos of his behaviour as it is NOT normal and I don't want to give others the wrong impressions of what keeping is USUALLY about. You'll have to take my word for it that Bob's behaviour blows out the notion they don't bond with us.

Sweet little Rose on the other hand only just tolerates anyone. Far more typical lol.

I bet I have videos of all my Panthers(4) doing the same as bob. I won't argue though. Doesn't matter much, I know you're a good keeper, we're entitled to different beliefs on it.

Oh I definitely believe that there are some that do. I didnt mean to make a blanket statement over all chams. Just try and generalize for the more normal chams.
Pesto absolutely hates my fiance, for example, but tolerates my mother and myself just fine. That may be because he can sense that my fiance is creeped out by him though :ROFLMAO: I would love to see pictures or videos of your guy at some point! I respect your decision to keep it privateso as to not give the wrong impression to new keepers. My PM is always open!

You might need to change your fiance. Let Pesto be the judge ;)

That is an amazing looking chameleon. I would live to have one with those colors.

As to the trading or rehoming. It happens plenty. Like others have said, reptiles could care less who it is as long as they bring the food. I recently rehomed my bearded dragon to a friend because he really loves him and wanted one. I know he will get great care and will be just as happy.

I have given thought to finding a new home for my female Nosy be because she hates being held and my male has no interest in her. I have dogs and things which may make her feel uncomfortable and if I found the right home for her I would let her go. Doesn't mean I don't live her but like someone else said if your not happy then it makes it harder.
