I have 2 Real ficus plants and a real Umbrella plant. I have got a piece of tree which I would like to use for my cam is it safe to use any type of tree? I have rinsed all the live plants. I have scrubbed the piece of tree and poured boiling water over it a few times, is this ok?

i do agree with the sap problem. any stick you get from the outdoors should be baked in the oven(375 for 30 mins)....if you cant bake because of its size it should be washed in a 1:10 solution of bleach and water....let soak for 30 mins then rinse 3 times thouroghly. dry then place in cage. i still wouldnt advise putting any stick from outside in the cage unless its baked though.

A lot of people use sticks from outside. If it is dead how can sap be a problem?
I use sticks from my tree outside, I know it has no pesticides on it. I just make sure there is no loose bark that can be eaten off of it.

Thank you for all of your replies. I have ditched the tree! I have got an artificial Jungle vine and I shall look out for some safe wood in the reptile shop.
