Evening everyone, I have a 1 year old jackson and his horns are getting really long and are soon to be touching each other. Is there anything I should know before trying to trim them? Cant afford going to a vet to trim his horns, so I am thinking of using either a nail clipper or to file them down. Any advice?

Yes do not trim his horns bad idea all around im sure allot more members will chime in and say the same.

its really not a good idea to try and trim his horns. It is not necessary either, unless they are growing in a way that is harming them. Jacksons are not getting their horns touched up in the wild. Let your little man do his thing.

I have never heard of this in any way...

A pic would be nice. I can't think of a way that his horns overgrowing would even hurt him. Don't trim them, do NOT trim them.

Besides, an easily-stressed animal getting a part of their body shaven off? Stressful. Unnecessary.

Not a good idea...Let them grow nature knows better, filing or cutting a horn will cause him pain and can only lead to bad things.

Hey as with many species in the world , some apendages looking lifeless actually conducts blood and has a multitude of nerve endings. To trim your cham would be the same as trimming a leg or a finger . In this case it is simply genes. Genes vary from with each Cham in your case the cham simply has longer pertrusions then others. This poses no threat to your cham and if anything you should enjoy the display. I recomend going through talored literature specific to Jackson Chameleon care and in consistant contact with a reptile friendly vet. Cheers from Anthony NS Canada.

There is a fair amount of blood inside the horns. They are not like rhino or elephant horns. Again, they do have blood vessels inside. They are very fragile too. The animal can seriously suffer blood loss and possibly die.

This is a veterinarian saying do NOT trim the horns in any way. If they touch, they touch. No biggie. Trimming could cause bleeding, permanent damage and pain.

dude what the hell  just go to some vet and ask for some advice, don´´t really think trimming is a goods idea atall
