Trouble with chameleon pooping

Barney my 9month old blue bar ambilobe panther chameleon loves nothing more then to sit in the sunshine outside and while he's enjoying this so much he likes to take a poo .. Which is fine and seems healthy! Accept when there is no sun outside and we can not take him out he won't poo in his viv which is proven to becoming a BIG problem as he has been 4 days without, and finally when it has been warm enough to take him out he has had a very big poo and more then one as he is so backed up! Has anyone else had this problem or can advise what I can do to encourage him to go to toilet in his viv (he's a cheeky boy!)

He probably gets more exercise outside and that extra moving around makes him poop. Maybe you can give him some out of the cage time inside with a newspaper under him. When I have one that's not pooping regular the first thing I try is upping their mistings for allot longer period of time and that usually works.

My guys like to hold it in until they are out of their cage and on the free range
But I agree with Jann, warm + exercise= poop!!!

This may be a good time to double check your basking temp.

Do you let him out to free range indoors?

Also, what are you feeding him?

Hi Psychobunny & jannb, thanks for the replys and ideas ... His viv is 4ft high 4 1/2 ft wide with lots of real plants and branches which he like to circle around .. He actually dose not move much when outside he just likes to sit in the sun in one spot up till recently he has been a over friendly Cham who as soon as he would see me would head bang the viv till I got him out (so cute) and spent a lot of time free range indoors but no pooping has taking part but recently he has become grumpy and not wanting to come out much, spoke to breeder who said he sounded sexually frustrated iv tonight found him a lady for 6weeks time (which works out to be his birthday) 'lucky boy' hahaa... The action will be taking care of by the original breeder who knows it is a completely diffrent bloodline... He has a wide range of food ... Locusts, wax worms, mario worms ... As a treat he's had dubi roaches and calci worms. He won't eat crickets anymore which is a shame but I do keep trying and he also won't eat millworms not sure why.

I've had allot of male panthers and other breeds of male chameleons that were never breed their entire life and never had and problems. I think there are risk involved with breeding that you should consider before breeding. Also many frown on cross breeding.

Okay jannb I will look into this more and I used the wrong term bloodline I meant a unrelated female and carry on the bloodline derrr!!! I'm a first time Cham owner as you can prob tell ... And just want to do what's best for barney.

4 days doesn't shock me to much. My year old doesn't poo everyday like he did at first. He Probably changed his bm's around nine months. He's good for every 4 or 5 days at this point. Just like a lot of chams he definitely has specific targets and spots.

Thanks melbel68 for you comment, so should I try and keep in him viv do you think for a week and hope he can't hold no longer and find a spot in his viv ?
