True Blue Nosy Be Advice Needed

OK, all you "True Blue" Be owners; I'm starting some long, slow research about Nosy Be chams. I'm looking to (possibly) purchase one next Spring.

What I need to know is how to search for "True Blue". I'm not really interested in any with red rain, etc...

Also, do the True Blue's still display other coloring throughout the day?
Do the Blue colors only manifest when they "fire up?"

I'm thinking, (correct me if I'm wrong) you can't determine how blue they are unless they're holdbacks, right?

Any info you Nosy Be folks might have is greatly appreciated.

It's so funny......when I first started keeping chams, I never likes Panthers. Then, I liked some, but not the blues.
Since I've seen my first True Blue, I'm hooked.
However, the Mitios make my heart flutter, too! :D

I hear ya man, tastes change. I first got into chams at only 13 yrs old and I only liked jacksonii at the time lol. Now I'm into.. Several I'll just say.
Anyway. Only way to know what your getting yourself into with a baby Be purchase is seeing the Sire, and both Grand-sires as well. If a breeder has all this for you then your getting a HIGH quality blood line and your sure to get what you want. On the other hand, I'll be honest and say a slight roll of the dice with just seeing the Sire pretty fun as well. My Nosy Be is not a true Blue but looks like one on occasion, most the time he is two tones, one being real BLUE and one being the light turquoise that the True Blue's normally are. Very attractive and more aesthetic to me than a true blue as they are most often just one tone of light blue/turquoise. Hope this helps.

Andie,

Yes just look for the Sire that you like and you shouldn't have much of a problem find "True Blue". You can always ask the breeder to select one that isn't showing any red rain as that usually comes in fairly early for Nosy Be's. As for color changes, all of my male breeders are normally solid blue but can go a lighter or darker shade depending on what they are doing in their cage. The babies will be able to stay much darker and almost grey at times but once they fully develop most will be solid blue non stop. Their "fired" colors are not like other locals where they change drastically so the blue you see is usually the blue you get.

Thank you. I appreciate this. (y)

I would LOVE to see a pic of your cham, too!

Hey, Nick! Didn't realize you breed True Blues. Do you ever get Mitsios? I'm now drooling over the possibility....I mentioned the idea of an anniversary gift and he didn't choke at the idea.....:ROFLMAO::LOL::notworthy:;)

You know...looking at "Bolt", again. He looks like a few Nosy Mitsio that I've seen. He is such a handsome boy, isn't he?!

I have an amazing Bolt baby from Nick and can't recommend him highly enough....his Nosy Be is also pretty spectacular! I've been quite tempted lately to snatch up one of them

@Andie
I have a Nosy Be, but he looks nothing like the sire IMO. My guy Alby is about 2.5 years old now, so I am pretty sure he is fully matured. He did have parasites growing up, which I regret terribly for not mitigating earlier.

My guy becomes the most blue/turquoise either when I bring him outside and is most warm, or when he moves from a darker area to a cooler one (kinda contradictory?).

I think most mitsio are wild caught at the moment, but I am not entirely sure and would love to be wrong. It's just I rarely see anyone with one that was captive bred and born, and I haven't found any breeders with a captive line going on, however if I were to breed panthers when I plan to breed chameleons later down the line, I would only breed mitsio.

Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed all your videos and pics. My favorite was the " Godzilla destroys the city" pic. LOL! That was cool. :ROFLMAO:

Hahahah. Yes, Nosy Be is actually my favorite local so I have quite a few different sires and actually working on more and more lines as I can never have enough blues!

I don't keep Mitsio right now but I know a friend of mine is currently working with a large group of them. Brenton Schappell from Chameleons By Design has some eggs and I believe babies right now that he is growing up and hoping to prove out as Mitsio so that might be an option.

OMG, yes! Bolt loves to play Nosy Mitsio at times. Some nights when he sleeps I swear he is trying to turn himself into one but he still wakes up Ambilobe hahaha.
