Trying to Cup Feed - Not Working!

I was worried about how much my cham was actually eating each day, so after 3 weeks of owning him I decided to try and cup feed.

I put the cup in a visible area, near where he usually hangs out, and near the basking spot, but he has yet to eat ANY of the cirx I put in there 3 days ago.

I let some free roam too, but I am not sure if he ate those, or if they burrowed in the plant, which I have noticed some do.

Any suggestions to get him to eat? Should I move to cup? I put it in the most logical spot I could think of, with easy access, and low enough to be seen from his spots.

Thanks.

it may take time and a lot of patience. your cham may not realize what the cup is for yet. make sure it doesn't starve trying to find out.

i started cup feeding my babies by holding the cup for them to eat out of up to their face and using the same cup (color wise) hoping that they will recognize the color eventually. it was difficult - to hold the cup still for minutes at a time just to entice them to eat was hard! my whole arm would shake from the effort. the slightest movement can frighten them away. however, now they will eat out of the cup i hold IF they are hungry. then i always hang the cup in the same location w/ a few crix in it so they have to go get the food on their own. i have yet to see them eat out of the cup but the crix are always gone w/in 48hours.

good luck and have patience!

ps i also found that if i put 10-15 crix in the cup they crix make so much noise and movement that the chams are sure to focus on the cup and not on my hand.:)

mindless- try making one of these

That paticular one is from a larger milk jug, which is overly large for our small cages, so I reduced the size and used a green tinted plastic soda bottle. I take it out as soon as he is finished and he now recognizes the big green thing as food the instant I put it in.

See if ya have any luck with that, since the crickets are more mobile on the screen and crawling around, it might coax em into it a bit easier than just a little cup.

GL man!

Mine were like that when I first had them. I switched the container I was feeding them in. Not sure if they didn't like the colour of it or what. But once I switched it up they started eating.

He has not had anything but silkworms and crix, he did not eat the silkworms.

Ill try making a new feeder container, thanks.

The crix just sit around, they don't really move, they find a warm spot and sit all day.

Where can I get flies?

Try to feed the crickets 6 at a time.
This way they wont have time to hide.
When I put 6-8 in they are all gone in 10 mins.
I feed juvenilles like this 2-3 times a day.
LLLreptile sells flies, but you may need house flies.
The Kammers sell them at chameleonsonly.com.

My crix sit in there for 1-2 days before they either dissapear or get eaten, I really don't know he has yet to eat in front of me, but he must be if they are disappearing.

You want to take the crix out after the day is over and put them back into the feeding container to reload on gutload.

I put small bits of collard greens in the cup, they eat those, is that sufficent enough?

Id say that after about 2-3 hours of the crickets sitting there, it would be better to fully re-load em. Leaving some greens in there is fine, but I wouldnt rely on that as your primary load after an extended amount of time.

I agree. My chams eat as soon as I put the cup in there. If he gets used to the cup feeding thing I dont think they will set there very long. That is based on mine though.
