Turtle Love Story :]

Hey guys! So a couple months ago i got a baby yellow bellied slider and he is amazing. I always wanted a turtle.

Well today i went to my friends house and we went into his pool and we found a tiny baby yellow bellied slider and it was a girl :) I took her home, fed her, and put her in with my boy. It was love at first sight. Benji(male turtle) was all over her. Not breeding way but in a friendly way :p

They are to young to breed BUT they are mature to be friends/lovers. Benji lets her bask with him, he shares his food with her, he lets her eat first, and they climb on each other to play. Now they are CONSTANTLY by each others side ;)

I thought it was the cutest thing ever how smart these animals are. But it was also a little bit depressing for me because, my turtles have a better love life then me. Oh well.

I thought you all would find this very cute so i had to share. I posted a picture below of the future husband and wife basking :D :p

No problem ;) No one ever replies to my posts :(

Just treated a huge yellow belly slider last week and I must say, she actually made me consider getting a water turtle again (I don't like the mess and cleaning the water). But she was gorgeous and the sweetest thing! Too cute that they made friends :)

That's good! How big do you think she was and you should get one! If you get a filter, you don't need to clean the water out so often or at all. They are fun to have part of your life :)

She was more than a foot long and probably a good 10 inches wide? She was big for a yellow belly. They're usually not quite that big.

I'll stick to my box turtles and tortoises for now. They are great company for someone with limited time for animal chores (chameleon chores are full time right now as it is with school)!

They are a great starter turtle! You should quarentine the new one, parasite etc. Also it's VERY hard to sex a turtle under 4 inches, pretty much impossible.

Nice looking turtles though, someday you will need a large pond for those two!

Also the one on the right, looks like a Florida Red Bellied Cooter more than a Yellow Bellied Slider, YBS turtles have an S shape on the side of the head.

Could you get a picture of the Carapace and Plastron the side of the head too.

That's interesting! She was bigger then she should have been!

Box turtles and tortoises are really cool!

Hey zac. My friend had a turtle lay eggs by his pool and I am assuming the one I found today was really young and born within a couple weeks. We had a huge storm yesterday that probably brought it into the pool. If they are in fact two different turtles..can these stil be together? I'm assumig their sexes by their reaction and I am almost 80% sure the YBS is a boy.

I will try to get pictures up tomorrow and I have a video of my setup on my YouTube channel but it changed a bit since then! I'm glad to hear you think my YBS is really healthy! :D

And I think you are right about the red bellied slider! It does have a bit of a red belly! That's good to know! :) I wonder if they are probably best friends then lol

Cousins. ;) Turtles are my first love of reptiles, so ask away any questions you want! I'm always happy to inform about turtles. They aren't as slow as you would think. :p

They pattern is VERY different on the top of the shells, so that is a dead give away.

Just make sure they don't get a ton of protein or you will get lumps on the turtle's shell (Pyramiding).

You are going to have a blast watching them interact. They can live together their whole life, but if you see any aggression move one out into a different tank. I suggest feeding in a seperate container, that way you know they are both eating. I have two Black Knob Sawback Map Turtles and out of all the 50 some that I have kept, they are the best looking ones! I am actually getting one from a breeder that I got a turtle from back in march and died, next week. c:

They can entertain you for hours! Cleaning sucks though!

Yeah they are defiantly two different turtles. One is a Yellow Bellied Slider and the other is a Red Bellied Cooter.

They eat together and love to explore their cage. I actually moved them into a bigger aquarium today. Its at least 25 gallons :D

BTW- how can they get to much protein? thanks zac!

The little faces are so funny lol. Especially the one that is looking at the camera! Haha nice pics :)

Keep in mind, 10 gallons per inch of shell. So if it's a 4 inch turtle add forty gallons and 5 gallons per added inch of the next turtle.

You can get too much protein by just feeding pellets, shrimp and high protein foods, so add romaine lettuce, fruit and safe veggies. Also you can add in some water plants.

Try Java Moss balls, and Java Fern for a plant. c:

No Problem!
