UK night time temps

HI

Got really cold now. i have a ceramic bulb but its not heating the whole cage to suitable temperature. Going to get a space heater tonight so should resolve issue. Any other suggestions.

Real issue though is panther not eating very much for last 7 - 8 days. 6 months old and not really growing at present. no shed for at least 6 weeks. I had to physically move him to basking spot night before last or he would have stayed in sleep spot for the day i think.

I realise from here that there are any number of reasons , but could it be hes getting too cold at night.

Hi there, At the top of the page there is 'resources' and there's a care sheet for panthers, I've just cut and pasted this -' Nighttime temperatures can safely drop down to 50F (10C) so a night heat source should not be used unless temperatures are lower than this. If night heat is needed a ceramic heat emitter or space heater should be used, not a light bulb, even red or black bulbs.'
I'm in the U.k in the winter the house is cold and not very well insulated - but I don't have any extra heat at night for mine- I guess I would if it got that cold but normally through the winter I don't.
I won't advise on him not eating as I dont know and hope that one of the more experienced people will help you out rather than me give you wrong info.
Here's hoping they can advise. :)

I don't think to cold will make him lose appetite...
More the other way around.

Like @Twitchet said, they can easily take 10C at night and probably a bit colder if they have a decent place to bask the next morning. The drop in temperature helps with sleep and I believe also their digestive system.

Maybe he has less appetite because of an upcoming shed... Maybe you should try a different feeder to see if that gets his attention.

It may best to have a vet look at him, if he doesn't improve soon.

I do not know the reason why yours is not eating, there can be several reasons for it, but all my chams slow down in winter here in the UK.

thank you all for the advice. 61.2F last night so i guess i will see how he goes. hes not keen on crickets and wont touch dubia roaches. was going well with locusts ( 6 in cage yesterday morning. six there again this morning.) tried silk worms two days ago he ate 1 3mm size that i saw. i feed supers ( not touched recently) and he has had wax worms but i havent given those for a week or more as i thought he was holding out for them.

Interestingly poop on last two days. looks normal and white urate.

looks thin to me though and is getting wrinkled skin. Any other advice very welcome. im really worried because he isnt getting the right diet or supplements so it seems to me its a down hill path.

if no change next 24 hours then vets.

Some panther can be picky and get addicted to wax worms. Has he been eating many of them?
You can try banana roaches, they are good feeders and panthers normally like them.
