Ultrasonic cool mister on timer a substitute for mistking? (video URL of enclosure below)

I feel that the humidifier will not create large enough drops for the cham to drink. Humidifiers are made to raise humidity without soaking anything. Mistkings are specially made to create drops for animals to drink. I would stick with the mistking

The ultrasonic will not produce the heavy droplets for drinking or eye washing unless it runs 24/7 and is aimed directly at a plant where the fog can condense and collect. Foggers are great at boosting cage humidity between "rainfalls" so you don't have to flood everything with your misting system in order to keep the cage humid in a dry room. If your house humidity level drops when you need an AC in summer or a lot of heating in winter this can really help maintain the cage climate. A combination of misting and fogging that is specific to YOUR situation is a matter of trial and adjustment. Multiple setting timers can be used to control the fogger very easily.

I have seen someone make a "dome" out of a plastic bowl. Cut a hole for the tubing in the bottom of the bowl, then attach tubing from the humidifier to the bottom of the bowl with the opening pointing inside the bowl. Then you place it upside-down on the top of the cage. The sides of the bowl and the screen collect the condensation and create the drops. Kind of a cheap version of the mistaking rain dome. Although, depending on how much "rain" it makes you may still need to hand spray a nice long session for eye cleaning.

Thanks everyone for this feedback. One thing I didn't share but that was in the video is that I also have a Big Dripper, so he will have big enough drops to drink from. With that in mind do I really need the mist king?

In my opinion drippers are good additions with a misting system, but never as a replacement to. Not sure you're schedule, but think of if you're good for a couple days straight. You'll want a mister with a reservoir. Which is just one of many reasons.

Sorry I have one of everything and I think you over did it with the MistKing and a cool air humidifier, you should go for a monsoon to pair with the fogger, because it sprays water droplets big enough for a chameleon to understand and drink from more readily. If you only use one and not both the MistKing wins though. I say go for monsoon with humidifier for the win though. Just my opinion from what I've observed.

In my opinion misting is not just for drinking. Though some chameleons never learn to drink from a dripper correctly and become severely dehydrated if that is the main form of water they are offered. Now mistings are extremely important not just for drinking, but direct warm mistings can cause particularly stubborn sheds to come off easier, a good long misting also is good for regular eye cleaning, which in my opinion is desperately needed on at least an every other day basis for healthy eyes.

I mean it already seems like you have no problem spending the money, technically chameleons are not really meant to be cheap though they technically don't have to be a hard reptile to keep if you have the correct set up. I would much prefer having a mist king that goes off at intervals to having a humidifier on for prolonged periods, the mistking is much less likely to cause respiratory problems.

So much depends on your particular climate situation. I've lived in very very dry climates where I used a misting system in addition to a fogger and some dripping. Other places the mister was all I needed. I wouldn't suggest using a fogger with just a dripper as the primary source of drinking water because the cham has less opportunity to really clean out its eyes. As Andee said, some chams don't use a dripper reliably enough, the drippers often fail or run dry too fast, and keeping them adjusted is a pain. Rain cleans the foliage and the cage and flushes the cage air as well.

For your particular setup and local situation that could work fine. It may or may not work for someone else.

Agreed. And a raindome will allow water droplets to accumulate on the top screen and even drip down a little. I just make sure that my homemade rain dome and screen dries out at night.
