Umm, mice as food?

I have snakes too which eat pinkies at the moment and it is not suggested to even give snakes live mice as they can attack back..there is pics on google snakes (dead) with massive wounds from rodent attacks..WOULD NOT advise doing this at all!! you could end up with a seriously injured cham or even a dead cham!!

I wasn't really considering mice as a food choice but I found it interesting that they must hunt live rodents in the wild and I always thought that chameleons were strictly herbi-insectivores.

Thats ok :)..i thought i would add it just in case it encouraged someone to feed their cham some mice..

I'm not going to even watch that! I could never keep anything as a pet that would eat anything else that I would also keep as a pet! the rule in my house is (for the cats at least!) - 'you don't eat family'!! I could never have a snake as I would never be able to feed it mice or rats.

It is unlikely a chameleon would eat mice in the wild (though they may occassionally eat small lizards, snakes or even little birds).
Mice are not a recommended prey item.

Lets not forget that in the wild snakes are given frozen then thawed mice as food.

Yeah I know they are bougth frozen, but I still couldn't do it! All those ickle white mice look like Stuart Little, lol!:D

Yes but as an pet owner arent you supposed to provide the best care for your animals and why take a chance of the rodent injuring your reptile when you can be sure that pre killed wont fight back. I

Yikes, that seems like it would end badly...I fed one of my melleri a frozen thawed rat pink once during a food shortage in the winter, but in comparison it was the size of a beetle for her. It seems to me like a cham could easily choke on any meal that large, let alone it being alive.
