underdeveloped male veiled?

I have a 2.5 year old male veiled that I got off craigslist. I thought I was getting a really good deal at first. Cage, lights, the Cham and a few extras for 100 bucks. However when I got there the lights were the wrong kind and the cage was much to small, so 100 dollars didnt seem like a very good deal at that point. I just had to get him though because I felt so bad over his living conditions and I have to try to give him a better life.

He was only getting fed once every 3 or 4 days. one feeding he would get crickets and the text he would get small mealworms. He was really thin, and kind of lumpy and boney(sp?) looking. After I got him I have been feeding him 6 crickets in the morning and like 6 or 7 waxworms around noon, everyday. And I can tell he is already gaining weight.

Now for my question. He is much smaller in size and length then I think he should be. He is shorter than my one year old female, and like maybe one inch longer than my 5 month old male. He is about 5 or 5.5 inches from snout to vent. Am I correct in assuming this is too small? Has 2.5 years of poor nutrition stunted his size permanetly? Or will he grow to his appropriate size eventually? Also is there any potential health problems I should look out for given his past?

Thanks for the info!

Remains to be seen ... he may surprise you with some noticeable growth now that he's getting fed.
Most important is that he gets sufficient water, supplements and nutrition.
Are there any signs of arrested bone development or MBD?
Does he appear to be otherwise okay?

oh my gosh do you happen to live in washington?

Their location reads Pensacola, Florida ;)

If he is that underdeveloped he could have contracted MBD from not having proper UVB, supplementation, or malnourishment. A vet visit may be required but definetly post some pics.

Oh lol. DUH! Right by the name. Thanks anyways.
I was going to say I saw a veiled on CraigsList for 100 bucks with cage and everything.
It was in a sad condition.
I was gonna thank him for saving it!!
Im deff. not qualified for rehabilitating a Cham. (being new to Cham keeping)
or Id have got it my self!

oh yeah i forgot to mention, she NEVER misted him. She put a bowl of water out for him which he must have learned to drink from. And she did feed him fruit at times which she said he would eat. As far as MBD, the ony thing I know to look for is like crooked or underdevloped bones, which all look to be in good shape. She had a uvb light on him, it was just the wrong kind, it was the curly CFL one. Im gonna see if he will let me take a picture, and then try and figure out how to post it.

i hope this works. this is so difficult!

You cant really see how boney and lumpy he is from these pics. anyway please tell me what you think

He looks very skinny and dehydrated but thats nothing you cant fix with misting, drippers ,showers, and a little extra food. As for MBD his casque looks straight and his legs, although very skinny, do not look bent. He does look small for 2.5 years old, very small. Good luck getting him better. I bet you will be suprised by his color potential once he gets healthy.

WOW. He is small for 2.5 years old. But all in all, with the obvious problems, he doesn't look that bad and with the right care, he should pick up pretty soon! As above, it doesn't look like he has any MBD/gout or other nasties. He does look underfed and dehydrated, but that's nothing that a new good regime of misting wont sort out (once they start drinking more they will start to eat a lot more) so lets hope he pick up soon! Bet of look with the little fella!
