Unknown Problems with Veiled Chameleon

Smoothies and bug juices are good to keep them hydrated, just be careful to let them drink it on their own terms to avoid them aspirating any. Hopefully a vet will be able to tell you more about what is going on.

He will be going to an exotic vet tomorrow morning ASAP. I will keep you guys updated if anyone is curious as to what is wrong with him according to a veterinarian.

Took my lil guy, Ziggy, up to the vet this morning. The vets even implied that he wasnt doing good and was surprised when I told them he had blood in his eye, said that it could be a systemic infection and has something to do with his immune system not being able to fight that infection. They said I was doing good with supplementation. They did bloodwork and currently have him in an incubator type thing to keep him warm. He is going to be left at the vets office for 2 days while they take care of him. Heres what they will be doing to him for the next couple of days: http://i.imgur.com/zLMfM2N.jpg

This was a very pricey vet visit at a staggering $385.

That seems pretty pricey. The chameleon specialist I go to charges me $65 a visit. An X-ray plus report was only $95. Where are you located? If you don't have options to shop around, that's probably why they can charge whatever they feel like.

On a more serious note, I'm glad your little guy is receiving the care he needs and I hope for the best.

I believe bloodwork by itself is usually around $100, could be more depending on what they are looking at, and hospitalization is always a pretty penny. Did they tell you what medicines they'll be using on him? The photo of the list they gave you wasn't very specific. Since it seems they're doing so much, I'm honestly not surprised at the cost.

I dust all my chamy feeders with Repashy Calcium Plus. I feed him every 3rd day. He has been healthy the whole time I've had him - 4 years. Get rid of the night heat bulb. He needs to cool down to rest. Night temps in the mid 60s are ok.

The red night heat bulb is on during daytime hours. I NEVER have a light on for him during the night.

Ok. I went back and read all the posts. I see that now. How is he doing today?
I've never used IR heat bulbs, only 60w incandescent (regular) ones and I have two straight T4 Sunblaster fluorescents. Those are on separate timers that run from about 6:30-7:30 am to around 8:00-8:30 pm. My mister runs 1 minute every hour from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm. I started with a pot plant but quickly found problems with that - he'd poop in it, it got over watered, it couldn't get enough light. Now I have two small plants hanging on the upper back wall and they thrive. There is no substrate on the floor. I clean it every other day so there's no food or poop he could get into.
If all goes well, could I suggest you get a bottle of Reptaid and give him about 3-4 drops once a month to help keep down any parasites or other possible problems? I've done that since Rambo's 1st (and only) vet visit. He's never been ill since. Anything else we can do to help you please just contact us and we'll be glad to advise and support you with chamy care. There are probably as many solutions as problems and then some but I learned by reading all the info and then made up my own mind. Hope any of this helps your chamy to thrive.

Picked Ziggy up today. The vet says he has improved, but he is not out of the woods yet. They have been injecting him with a medicine with a needle, feeding him orally with syringes, and kept him under a UVA UVB incubator. Ziggy has been moving around instead of being stationary all day, he attempts to move but looses his energy quick. The vet has provided me with sterile syringe needles, sterile syringes for oral feeding, they gave me an Oxbow Animal Health Carnivore care nutritonal supplementation which is all organic for me to feed to him through a syringe, and the needles are for injecting him with the medicine that I took home with my cham. I am require to inject the medicine through his biceps on his frontal limbs. Overall hes doing much better than he was doing when I took him in. I appreciate everyones concerns and suggestions. I will definetly check into Reptaid.
