Unleash the flies!

Buy more chameleons :D

Lol. I have a 6 month old who is not at all interested in the flies...and two 2 month olds, that I would lose if I set them loose. Once I have a home that I can dedicate a whole room to just Chameleons...they can run around :D.

Any fruit fly or household fly that escapes always congregates to where my air filter exhausts. I have the Holmes tower model about 3' from the wall, blowing towards the wall. Any escapees group together on the wall like they are attending fly church. They seem to love that fresh ion air. Hang your swatter on the back of the filter and wait. The maybe 20 or so chinese mantids that I let loose have been cleaning up. I bent over to put something in my trash can, and there was like 7-8 hanging out hunting. I am really starting to dig those little guys. No more fruit flies walking over me at night. :D

This would completely freak my girlfriend out. Otherwise I would totally do it. I just ordered an egg case to hatch some to feed to the little girls.

You're supposed to put the pupae in the refrigerator, and take out what you want to hatch. God what a mess!

I recently hatched silkworms...and for whatever reason..I thought it would take 10-14 days so I forgot about it, haha! Won't be making that same mistake again...

James I can't believe you let go of 20 praying mantis to control the fly problem. Lmao. This thread almost has me in tears. I haven't laughed like this in a while. Here's an update on the fly larva I ordered. They got here today and I can't believe how many you get for for only $7. I swear there are 1000's. I just started calling costmers to tell them to come over and get as many as you want. There's no way I could feed all these out.
Wife won't let me put them in the fridge so there chilled by an AC vent.

Chocolate covered flies aren't so bad, either. :D high in protein.
Standing order every first of the month: 500 blue bottle and 500 household, w/ 6 fruit fly cultures constantly going.

I also bought some of those flies for my female I got from junglefries. I made a big container and turned all the larvae loose in it, big mistake. Inow have thousands of flies in the container and cand hardly catch 20 of them at a time with a small deli cup with lid. I cut a 4 inch hole in the side and attatched panty hose to it so I could reach in and get what I needed then tie it up when done. Works great besides not being able to catch them. Next time ill leave them in the fridge and just pull out what I want to hatch and use several cups to hatch them.

You'll are gonna give me a bad rap. You know they sell just 50 flies, also. :D Maybe I got lucky from watching that kid's youtube video. The last batch I only had about 10 get loose, and I think most were from outside. I just jinxed myself, I think. We will see tomorrow. :D

Haha yes! But for $1 more you get 500!! The bargain shopper in me went nuts and couldn't fathom not getting 450 more for a dollar... :) Glad to say the flies are mostly gone. One or two left! Nigel helped me a little yesterday. I had him on his Big Manzanita tree yesterday on my kitchen table and he snatched a couple. One from midair! It was a great sight.

I think my fiancee would kill me!! At least the dogs would help, at least I think lol. They go crazy outside when there are flies around them.

Glad to hear you got most of them.

Chase

Yes, very much so. My cocker spaniel loves to lunge and gulp flies, and chase the crickets. The pekinese is too stuck up and busy being just plain hateful to care.

That stupid $1 more is what got me the first time. $20 for 1,000 crickets or $9.16 for 1,000 flies. The math is easy on that one. Probably an inside joke at the sellers. Every business has a gimmick for suckers.

In all seriousness, when it comes to a 2-4 month old panther, it REALLY pays off. Their colors go off the chart when hunting them, and being soft bodied, they are digested ubber quickly. Very fast growth spurt follows. I can't believe I waited so long to take full advantage of them. The only other feeders are that eaten that fast, are mantids and moths.

Definitely talking about guys like me around their water cooler, haha! I did manage to get some into the girls' cage, and they did indeed swallow them up quick. My silkworms right now are the perfect size for them, so they've been chowing down on those as well. The "Small" crickets that I've been getting have been too big for them, and they end up just hanging out at the top of the cage until I clear them up. So mostly just flies and Silkworms for now. I got a fruit fly culture as well but I don't know if they're too small for them or not. Small phoenix worms are working well too.

Fruit flies will still be eaten, even though they may need 5,889,987,877,543 to fill up. 3-4 month olds still will.
