Unusul Cricket Death

As usual I put 3 crickets into his feeder cup at the beginning of the day. When I returned later this is what I saw. All 3 crickets were from the same cage and this one looked like its guts had been eaten out. What do you think? Was this done by a the other crickets or do I maybe have another bug in my cage?

That would be cricket cannibalism, they do that when the are dehydrated. They eat the guts for moisture. They may do it from lack of food too.

Ok, it just happened so fast so was I kind of shocked. Thought I had some crazy carnivorous bug in my cage. But yea, added some watermelon and carrots to the cages.

Try putting a piece of apple(or something like that) in the cricket container. This will eliminate crickets eating other. This work really well with superworms.

I encourage you to try Moisture Munchies. Recipe can be found at http://members.tripod.com/~drayco2/MM.html

This uses agar agar which is a vegetable binder. My crickets/worms all love it. I highly recommend it.

I haven't tried it using fruit juice instead of water but one of these days I will. I usually double the recipe which makes a 9 X 13 pan about 1 inch deep. This stuff stores very well in the refrigerator in a covered container. it is odorless and colorless--just like a jellatin.

Well worth trying, folks.
