Hello community,

My little male Panther that is 3 months old is doing really well now eating food. He enjoys his time outside of the cage now and even lets the kids hold him..

I do have a concern I have an ant problem they are little very tiny ants I call them sugar ants. I'm not sure what the real name is for them. I have attached a picture of one. So I have noticed these little guys in the cage with him are they a threat to him?

any input will be very helpful.

Hello Community,

I'm curious if anyone has had the same problem with those types of bugs and if they have any recommendations.

I don't know much about suggar ants or if they are harmful or not. Have you tried placing ant traps outside the cage to see if that helps? They have the traps available where the ant will take the poison back to their nest and it will kill them all.

Where I live we have ants that people call sugar ants. If they are the same ants I would be careful. I've seen them swarming over dead insects such as big Dragon flies. Also they do not seem to be affected by bait the way most ants are. I have used sprays to deter them. There is a pet and kid safe spray that uses peppermint and rosemary that has short term success with. Hope this helps.

Do you know the name of that spray. I found some on the vines and on the plants so I would really like to take care of them.

Called ecosmart. I would be careful with it. Would never trust a product with direct contact with inside of the enclosure. Like I said seems to deter them for awhile. Should give you time to rid the problem.
Want to say never used it for your purpose. Please do research before use.

I live in Florida and we deal with sugar ants all the time. They are the little teeny tiny ones right and move very fast??? If so, what you want to get is a product called Terro. That is what we use down here. They have baits and they work! I would not put anything inside the enclosure. Make sure wherever you decide to put them that if you have a dog or children that they cannot get access to it. You can get in at Home Depot or places like that. Our grocery stores sell it also, but that is down here because they are so common. Edit: I just saw your picture and the ant pictured is not a sugar ant! Atleast not what we call them down here in Florida! I would not spray anything in the cage regardless if it is Eco friendly or not.

Yup, in Florida (I'm in Palm Beach County) we have those tiny little bas*t**ds. They tend to swarm. Annoying little guys, though harmless to us. Not sure about Chams though. They come every year like clockwork in my house. I haven't thought about that in regards to my new Cham.

Subscribed for info.

Here are some better pictures they are very small and fast and I live in Punta Gorda Fl south of Tampa. they are very small look at the flower pot.

If you have live plants is it possible the ant colony is located in the soil? If it is you may want to consider removing all the soil, and replanting your plants.

So i believe they are not sugar ants they are ghost ants. When I first bought the plant I re potted it and used new soil I think they are coming from outside. I have now found these suckers on my desk. I also just found a S*** tone of them in my cricket keeper. So terro is the recommended brand?

So after doing a little research I have found that these are in fact not sugar ants but are Ghost ants. I bought the plant about a week ago and re potted the plant and replaced the soil. There are coming from the base of the stand that the cage sits on. I have even found these annoying ants on my desk. So should I just remove everything clean it all with soap and water then place it back in?
