The mystery continues. Amadeus saw a new vet that again saw nothing wrong with him. He DOESN'T have a URI which surprised me. I did give him his panacur and boy did the worms exit quickly. YUCKKKKK! He is eating on his own now but his eyes still aren't right. The new vet wants to do more testing. What do you think? It was his first treatment with Panacur and if he was that infested with worms would it take awhile for him to get back 100%? And for his eyes to be open fully? I just don't want to put him through anymore stress than necessary he has already been through so much.

If that many worms came out, it might have put a lot of stress on his system. Often, the body can cope with the living parasites, but as soon as the parasites die the body treats them as foreign bodies that it needs to get rid of - like a toxin.

This is what Dr. Dmitry Vassiliev has to say about Panacur on the Chameleons! Online E-Zine:
"No side effects are known within the safety dosage. An indirect effect may occur when there is a large number of parasites and the dead bodies cause the aforementioned toxic shock to the chameleon. Toxic shock may manifest itself as a lowering of activity and an appearance of depression. The flood of dead bodies can also limit the chameleon's peristaltic activity (the gut pushing food through) by the sheer bulk of the bodies of dead nematodes blocking the intestines."

He doesn't say what to do in such a situation though. I think your best bet would be to consult your vet about the amount of parasites that were dislodged by the Panacur to see if he has any advice.
Other than that, it would probably be best to keep your chameleon very well hydrated to deal with the possible threat of toxic shock.
So the answer to your question is: yes, it may take a while for your cham to get back to 100%. But hang in there, it sounds like you're doing the best for him that you can.
