URI Treatment

Hello Everyone,

Unfortunately Odin has come down with a URI. Thankfully my girlfriend and I caught on the first day and got him to a vet ASAP.

The vet prescribed Enrofloxacin. its 1 cc diluted into 9 cc of Tutti Fruiti spending solution. Ever other day for 30 days. (total of 15 days actual administrating the medicine.).

Today is the 2nd day i have given him the medicine, about 10 minutes after a ball of saliva/mucus appeared outside of mouth.

Is this normal? I already contacted the vet, and the technician said that it should be okay, i was just wondering if any of the vets or more seasoned hobbyists have a different opinion.

Thanks

That mucus needs to cleaned out of his mouth and throat if it isn't it makes it hard for them to breath and drink.
30 days on baytril is not the best treatment.

Hi, if you are able to remove the extra saliva in the mouth do so. I would also recommend keeping humidity within range (dont let it get low). I dont know what type of cage you have or what caused the issue but good air flow with 60-80% humidity will help the animal breathe better.

What caused the RI ?

Yes ive been keeping the cage 60% humidity. Its a Reptibreeze Medium. So 16x16x36 i believe.

My grilfriend thinks its because i had two nozzles in his terrarium for the mistking that he might have gotten a chill. So i removed the second nozzle and reduced the time the mister goes on for. I use a dripper to maintain some humidity and constant water supply.

Yeah I removed the the mucus/saliva right away. I took him to the vet and she said its uncommon that they would cough up a ball a saliva/mucus but it does happen.
