As some of you may know I have been having trouble with my new veiled female. She is only 3 months old and when we got her a new beautiful screened enclosure....she stopped eating. I have been 'force feeding' worms to her but this afternoon - after nearly a week - she ate four mealworms and drank - get this - eight droppers of water! She was so dehydrated and hungry. :(

So I am utterly thankful and I'm so relieved I could cry. Amazing how this little girl has curled around my heart the way her tail curves on my wrist. She just the sweetest thing and her trust when we were giving her the droplets of water was touching. Then as I held her with my fingers lightly around her to keep her warm, she fell asleep in my hands. Our Jenny has somehow become a very beloved member of our family in a weeks time. ;)

i'm glad she is eating. but, I would not offer her mealworms and substitute it with silkworm or hornworms as they are healthier.
Especially, since both are high in water content and excellent source for extra hydration boost.
Mealworms are bad nutritionally and can cause impaction on chams.

I am so glad that she is now eating and drinking. You can now get her to eat more nutritious and calcium dusted food ! YEAHHHH These little lizzards really have a way to tug on our heartstrings.

Thanks Everyone!

Hey Everyone - Dodolah, yeah I know about mealworms and they aren't my favorite to give her but they are the smallest and we still have to coax her to open her mouth. Plus I don't have a distributor locally of silkworms or hornworms. I'll have to order them via the internet.

But I'm THRILLED she ate and drank, even if we did have to encourage her a bit. She already looks so much better.

Thank you to everyone who gave me such wonderful advice. I'll be posting a picture of Jenny soon. :)

Great to hear your cham is doing well. I have a question, what is the stuff called that i dust onto crickets? or can anyone explain the process?

Dusting

Hey Dave, I'm still new to all this too but it is important to dust the crickets with a calcium supplement. I'm sure you'll get better answers from the others. ;)

Our Jenny

Ok, well - this isn't the BEST picture of her but she is sitting on a brown branch so her coloring isn't great but....this is our Jenny. :)

how do i dust them? do i just sprinkle the calcium dust into the cricket box?

Put a few in a plastic cup, then lightly sprinkle a small pinch over them. Cover cup with your hand and shake. Another way is to use a bag with crickets and calcium and shake shake shake.

Dripper!

Hey Syn, yeah I did! I got the Big Dipper from Zoomed going right now. But I was just grateful to get the actual water into her mouth. I'm so relieved!

And congrats on getting her to eat and drink alittle! Plus I totally agree about them absolutly wrapping they're tails around your heart. I was in love at first tongue flick.
