UV bulbs?

Handsome Jack currently has a Reptisun 10.0 UV bulb. I've hear this is bad for chameleons-is that true? Should I get rid of the 10.0 and get a 5.0?

as far i know the 10.0 is more for desert animals and the 5.0 for rainforest/tropical animals so i'd tkink you wil be better of getting a 5.0

As long as your chameleon has plenty of foliage to be able to get out of the rays of the UVB bulb if it wants and the cage is large enough a 10.0 bulb will be fine.

True but you also dont want to much uvb penetrating thru. Like ferritinmyshoes just said if your cham has a lot of foilige to go hide under, a 10.0 wil be fine

Why do you say that you do not want UVB penetration? That is precisely what we want, we want to create a gradient where they can regulate the amount of light.

i did not say you dont want UVB penetration, i said you dont want to much ofcourse UVB i essential for chameleons but you don't want to over expose them.

yeah through screen you lose about half of the uvb. and as posted above, lights are no where near what the sun actually offers and there are many other posts that debate the 5 or 10 or the 6 and 12 from arcadia. As long as it has good foilage i would go for the 10
