uvb and plastic question

Hello all,
Great website. I am a total newbie. Glad to have found this place.
I have the zilla tropical 25 uvb t8 fluorescent bulb and bulb housing purchased from local pet store. The housing came with aclear plastic cover that protects the bulb. Has anybody tested to see how much uvb I am losing through the plastic or acrylic. Not really sure what it is. I am wondering if I should take that plastic shield off to allow better penetration. I am also using the housing on top of an aluminum screen cover so more lost penetration there too.
thanks in advance

I took mine off my zilla bulb housing. Uvb is lost is plastics and glass, so i have read. So i would take it off just to be safe.Oh yeah, welcome to the forum!:D

Hello, welcome to the forum :) What kind of Chameleon do you have?

I will remove the plastic cover from my lamp today. Curious why Zilla would sell a uvb lamp with a plastic cover. Maybe a legal issue? My cham is a female Jackson.
