Uvb exposure

Drake is a 10mo.old veiled male who likes to play Tarzan and hang upside down at the top of his encloser. He sometimes spends 10 to 15 minutes playing around up there which puts him directly under the Arcadia 12% uvb (48"). How dangerous is this to be in such close proximity to the fixture?

Is your fixture directly on top of the cage? Or do you have it raised up?

Hello I went throw your old post and notice you’ve never posted a help forum review. There maybe more going on witch is why he’s screen climbing so much.

Chameleon Info:

• Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
• Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
• Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
• Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
• Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
• Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
• History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
• Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
• Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
• Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
• Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
• Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
• Location - Where are you geographically located?

It is directly on top of the cage. Gives proper space to upper branches

12% is not recommended period unless you have a quad T5HO with a mono reflector, or a very tall cage with 12-18" between the bulb and the first stick.

We have has several threads in the last few months of 12%/10.0 folk who are getting edema from using the bulbs and supplementing with D3.

So i would move the fixture up and additional foot so that the UVB levels will drop down to UVI 3 ish at around 18" away from the bulb.


This is all assuming its a 42" T5HO, and not a 48" T8. If its a true T8, then disregard the above, and the cham is fine to hang out under the bulb for 10-15min a day to get some warm "sun"

I am trying to remember here.... didn't you get a solarmeter 6.5 to double check your levels? Or do I have the wrong member lol.

Ok so rig it so the basking stick is 18" away from the bulb. The cham hanging on the screen directly under it is getting exposed to several times higher UVB/UVC vs terrestrial. My 12% at 4" can cure industrial UV cure epoxy faster than the recomended UV curl bulb can.

Sounds good but he leaves the basking stick and climbs on the top of the cage which I am worried about his exposure.
He does not spend a great amount of time there and it is infrequent but still causes concern.

• Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? Feeders gut-loaded with bug burger/various greens
• Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? Dusted with Repashy lod daily
• Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? Drip 12hr per day hand mist approx 11/2-2 min. Twice daily
• Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? Black and white with slight touch of light orange on tip of urates daily
• History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. Loves fresh greens/kale,dandelion, mustard greens,ect.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? 3 sides and top screen 24" deep 48" wide 72" tall
• Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? Arcadia t5HO 12% (48") incadescent basking bulb 75W
  12hr on 12hr off
• Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? 77deg floor-87deg basking measured with infrared hand held lowest night temp 65deg.
• Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? 55-60 misting
  Use humidity meter
• Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? Birdnest fern/weeping fig
• Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? Medium traffic area 77" top to floor
• Location - Where are you geographically located? Southern Calif.
