can you just use a regular florescent bulb for chams or no. what is the difference between ones that are from pet stores?

Most regular florescent tubes as would be used in houses and commercial buildings do not give off UVB, even the ones that say full spectrum.

full spectrum in that instance would be ROYGBIV not really radiation light. from my understanding all floresecnts can give off anything, but they have a filter (that white stuff on the inside of the bulb) that filters out the uvb for use so we dont ruin our eyes, and risk sun burns inside lol. im sure the potency of this is raised by having more unstable elements in the tube as well

They can give off UV of all kinds. BUT the GLASS filters out most of it. UVB lamps are made of quartz... this allows the UV we want to pass through. The phosphors of the UVB lamps are what make it a UVB lamp... and the mixture of that phosphor is what makes it better than others. ZooMed seems to have gotten the mixture right. This is why so many people use them. Plus their lamps run stronger for longer.
