Veild Breeding Help (how to properly introduce a female)

Hey guys, earlier today a forum member and I (Bocajan) got together to try to breed our veilds, she brought a reptarium so they could get to know each other and have room to roam around a bit, so as i removed my plant out to get out my male, we decided to just introduce them right there (there were still some sticks and a vine in the cage) my male "fired up" for the female, then began gaping (aggressively) but we thought it was still ok, so we put in the female, my male hissed and LUNGED, he bit the female on the side (we had to forcfully seperate them) and left her with a nasty bruise.

Any insight on what couldve been done and why my male acted that way, we tried to introduce them a few weeks ago and she was in his cage but he paid her no attention and went on with his own business.

Thanks in advance,
Danny

EDIT: my male is about 9.5 months

Did Bocajan forget to put her veiled's makeup on? :( Did you get some music playing? Light some candles?

:/ haha, her veild had plenty of "makeup" if you call beautiful receptive coloring makeup, im not picking on you Syn but please dont go off subject on this thread guys, i really wanna know whats up with this behavior

Oh of course, I know. How old is your cham and hers? I suppose it's possible that your chameleon just doesn't like her?

all of the info is in the top post.

My male: 9.5 months
Hers: Not too sure, over a year (i believe she's bred before)

Lucy is a really sweet veiled and loves everybody, except for Sam. LOL. She was very puzzled at how it turned out. She wants a boyfriend. Lucy is 1.5 years and has a nice plump clutch cooking in the egg cooker.

Sorry... guess I must have missed it..

Maybe yours is still young and territorial. I wonder if anyone else has had a Veiled that didn't want to breed?

It is just a shadow of what it was this afternoon. She will be fine, especially since she had her yummy silkie that you so graciously sent back with me.

I know Sam is aggressive but it really baffles me why he would do that to her, especially since he paid her no attention last time.

So i did some reading, its says that an aggressive male may bite the female. in that case they should be seperated, THEN WHAT? does that mean my male can never mate...

we need Brad here :/

Sounds like a terriroty issue? Introduce the male to the female in neutral territory, rather than put her into his cage.

I agree that it sounds like the male is being territorial. It may be better to put them either on neutral territory or in her cage if it can be done. Introducing them outside on a sunny day may help as well. Competition for breeding privilege from another male may also help, sort of to "tease" the male you actually want to breed.

He may also just be too young at this point and not ready to breed (which is weird since he is veiled, but each cham is different)

Maybe just take it slow and keep trying over the next few days. He could just not feel like it or be in a bad mood.

That was really helpful Nikki, i cant do it over the next few days...2 different members here. But it was very helpful guys.

My next step would be to house them next to each other in separate cages so that they can see each other for several days.
Then try again.

Thanks Brad, however that not possible for us, i dont have space and i dont think shed want to have to take care of my cham :p

Next best choice....

I liked Brad's idea the best. If you can't do that maybe you could just have them see each other an hour or two before they get together. My male Kyros did that the first time he saw a female. I had only one male and one female then. I think seeing any other Veiled was a total shock for him. The next day his mood was totally different. I had the female outside the cage on my hand and he watched her and then tried hard to get to her from inside the cage. I put her in the cage and he was then trying to mate but totally too aggressive so I took the female away again. The next day after that I repeated the process and he was a little less aggressive in the breeding. Then it went well and have juvies from that pairing.

I think my female decided she had enough of males and their bad behavior. I tried to mate her today with her fav boyfriend and she headbobbed, gaped, hissed and turned black. Boy does that send a message or what! She has been receptive for about 6 weeks and I guess she decided to just be a virgin (again) LOL.
