Do they need the basking light on being as young as a week or so? I just have the UVB light on and it’s around 80 F. I just got it today and they said it’s ate 3 crickets is that enough? I am new to the group so any comments on a baby veiled would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Three crickets should be more then enough at that age hes so cute when i first got mine he was two months old now hes 7 months i know the coldest they can go is 50 degrees and hottest around 80 to 90 i always kept mine at room temp when their that small make sure the light isnt to hot and he has plenty of water dont let the little guy get dehydrated little crickets are best for a baby mediums but no large good luck on your cute chameleon i am here if you have any questions or anything

@jannb Thanks I am new to this page also so bare with me, took me forever to figure out how to post anything. Lol, they are the smaller sized crickets. Where do I get fruit flies? I’m not for sure on his age that’s what I was told, can you tell how old it is?

@Melodie21 thank you it’s (don’t know if it’s male or female) for sure a cutie. Is the UVB light enough around 80 F if so how long should I leave it on? I got some of the small crickets (the vitamins to sprinkle on them) and some cricket food. I have a separate cage for the crickets, I know they can’t be left alone with it. I’ve done my research just now that it’s here I have so many more questions

It looks like it could be a female if there is no spurs on the back feet 80s perfect you should leave it on till night make sure the baby has plants to hangout under to cool down on thats good and yes so true you can ask me any questions you have about a veiled chameleon

You can buy a small amount of fruit flies at PetCo or PetSmart to get him started while you order a larger amount from Josh's Frogs. https://www.joshsfrogs.com/live-insects-feeders/fruit-flies-culturing-supplies-3.html

@gemini2fly Be careful with a dripper at that age. Sometimes the drops are too much for them to handle.

@gemini2fly and @Melodie21 if you answer the questions in this thread we can chcek to see if anything needs to be changed..

Yeah I was very uncertain about the dripper so I just sprayed her a few times and the plants before I went to bed, I know you have to put the conditioner in the water, would bottled water be best to put in my sprayer?

You're supposed to let the cage dry out at night.
I've never used a conditioner for my water...I just leave tap water out overnight and use that for the dripper and for hand sprayers. Most people on here use automatic misters and tap water will likely clog them.

Just a quick heads up, 3 crickets is definitely not enough for a baby veiled he/she should be eating at least 15 appropriate size feeders. Also 90 degrees will dehydrate a baby very fast and is to hot.

@gemini2fly you do not want to spray him directly, in the picture he looks very small and they can aspirate water into their tiny lungs. The best way for us to help you also is if you fill out the how to ask for help form, just copy and paste it and be as detailed as you can:) Here is the link: https://www.chameleonforums.com/threads/how-to-ask-for-help.66/

She’s not eating right she’s only ate one all day, I did see her drink water earlier off of the fake plant I sprayed, is there a reason why she’s not eating?

You will need to fill out the form I linked above so we have all the information and then we can try to help, be as detailed as possible!
