I just moved him to his new enclosure last night, from the small glass tank he was given to me in. I've noticed new behavior such as going to his new basking spot and basking on one side, then coming down and yawning. He's been very active. Here's some info for his current enclosure.
Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Male veiled. About two years old, possibly a little more. I've been babysitting him since summer but now he's permanently mine. He's very small and has a small casque, I'm guessing his growth was stunted by poor husbandry.
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? Maybe once a week. I try to avoid it.
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? Mix of small crickets and meal worms. Usually 7-8 insects total in the morning. I don't feed the meal worms anything, they're kept in the fridge. I don't have small crickets (all the pet stores here ran out) but when I do have them, they're fed flukers orange cubes, some lettuce or whatever vegetable I have at the time to feed my guinea pig, and dusted when I first get them with reptical calcium.
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? Now use water bottle with poked holes as a dripper system. I did that twice today. Also misted with a sprits bottle manually once with warm water (about 50 sprays). I do see him drink and he gets excited when water drips but he is definitely dehydrated and has yellow urates. I'm trying to encourage him to drink more since he's used to drinking off the glass in his old tank.
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? Brown poo sometimes comes out with some gooey stuff around it. Urates are yellow.
Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? Screen cage, 3 feet tall. 17X17
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? Uvb reptisun 5.0 linear bulb and a 75 w basking bulb. Just started using them today. He previously had a crappy heat/uvb combo bulb which was pretty old. Turn on lights around 7 am if he is awake. Turn off around 8 pm.
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? 90 in basking spot. Bottom of cage is about 70. Night temps are about 70 all over. Measured with scanning thermometer. Not sure of temps in previous tank - about 80 according to the thermometer in there.
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? Have not measured humidity in new cage. I try to keep it humid with misting.
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? No live plants for now until I find one
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? On table in my room by window for extra sun light. About 4 feet away from air vent. Top of cage is About 5.5 feet above floor.
Location - Where are you geographically located? New Jersey
Current Problem - just saw him rubbing his eye on a branch but it is not swollen or closed. I gave him a really good mist after and he hasn't done it again. I'd also like to mention that I'm not sure if he's shedding but there is a piece of skin hanging from his chin/mouth area.
