Veiled Cham with possible injured front leg

HI,

Waldo has this problem. I think he might have fallen in his cage. We dont hold him at all. I have taken him out maybe twice since we bought him in October. His appitite is great, he eats large crickets about 5-6 a day dusted everyday now with Calcium. I used to do it about 2-3 times a week with the calcium with d3. I spray him down 3-4 times a day. he goes into the sun and he gets misted with water (not directly but his plants). He really loves it. Last time I did that (When we had sun on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday) he drank lots and lots of water. He is still his angry self and nothing else has changed besides the fact that he doesnt use his right arm and it is defeintally swollen. i called the vet and they said that if the swelling doesnt go down in a day or two. (by this weekend) i have to take him.

Does anyone know what this might be?

he has an all screen cage. with the Repitglo 10.0 UVB bulb plus a red heat lamp. he has fake vines and a ficus tree (real) and an umbrella tree (real). his poops are normal and he is healthy. I have done everything that i believe is right, according to this website any many many others (Flchams, raisingkitty etc.)

its is a bit of a mystery to me.

That definatley doesnt look normal....Im not an expert but i know for a fact you should change that repti glo 10.0 to a reptisun 5.0 linear tube. Compacts cause eye issues. Wait till someone else chimes in

the reptiglow could be a linear florescent which would be ok but sorry I can't comment really on the leg. One of the vets might chime in though.

No need for the red heat lamp as veileds need a temp drop at night to help them sleep deeper. Just use a regular incandescent bulb for basking, 40w or 60w which ever gets your temps where they need to be. And put it on the same timer as your UVB bulb. Unless the mesh is really thick a repti-sun 5.0 is the best.

Sounds like you are kinda lost on the supplementing. This is my supplement schedule:
-4-5 days out of the week lightly dust half of the day's worth of crickets with calcium w/o D3 (backed down to 3-4 times a week at 6 months)
-once every other week with calcium w/ D3 (backed down to once a month at 6 months)
-once every month with the herptivite supplement

Note: There are a lot of different opinions on how often and how much to supplement, but through my research I believe this is what is best for my veiled, Dante. Do your own research on this and come up with the schedule that best fits your chameleon's needs.

I'd get him to the vet. That leg needs to be x-rayed to make sure its not broken.

What do you gut load your crickets with? I think Edema and Gout can cause swelling at joints? Not to be alarmist, just throwing possibilities out.

sandrachameleon - i feed them carrots, lettuce, the orange cubes from flukers, and sometimes a bit of fruit depending on what im eating.


alhickabee - we live in Monterey, where the temps usually only get into mid 70s in summer and 50 -60's in winter with lows in the 30s we have to run the heat lamp or it gets too cold in his cage (we have had many other reptiles, monitor lizards, geckos, uxyromastics (spelled wrong), snakes, turtles etc). he does move around a lot and i he sleeps in the same spot every night, unless its super cold then its usually closer to the heat.

I'd go see the vet, and I dont think I'd wait a few days. If he's not using it, its probably hurting him.
