Hello! I was gifted a 3-4 month old veiled chameleon
I think it is a He, but I have noticed his eye's are closed
one is more squinted but the other looks completely shut
I have not seen this poor guy eat anything so I am worried for his health

I do not know much about chameleons but I really want to keep him
healthy! what can I do? someone said to force feed but Im scared to do so

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - veiled 3-4 months old,

Handling - daily I hold him for about 15 mins or less

Feeding - I was given crickets and mealworms but I feel the crickets are too big for him at the moment

Supplements - I was given Repti-Calcium without D3

Watering - I use a spray bottle at the moment, do it 3 times a day ( per I was told)

Fecal Description - I do not know if he has been tested but its brown kinda like bird poop

History - I have never owned one before, I was given him about one week ago

Cage Info: 3ft

Cage Type - a large rectangle, "Repti Cage" all Glass minus top it is mesh

Lighting - I do not know the lights, I was told at 8 at night to turn off the warm light ( color wise as its bright)

Temperature - on the thermostat it is in the "OK" zone, I will post pictures to better help this meaning

Humidity - Mesured using a thermostat, it is 80 degrees right now

Plants - No I't came with some fake looking ones

Placement - It is high up top, sorta in a low to medium traffic zone

Can you please take a picture of the entire enclosure lights down for me. And can you take a picture of the actual bulbs. I need to see if you have the correct uvb bulb.

This is going to be a ton of initial feedback. But please we are going to take it piece by piece so don't get overwhelmed. See my feedback in red bold.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - veiled 3-4 months old,

Handling - daily I hold him for about 15 mins or less

Feeding - I was given crickets and mealworms but I feel the crickets are too big for him at the moment... No mealworms. Crickets should be 1/4 inch size. These are sold as smalls typically.

Supplements - I was given Repti-Calcium without D3... Ok this is good... This would be used every day and then two times a month you would use something like reptivite with d3 on the 1st and the 15th of the month. you lightly powder the feeders with it.

Watering - I use a spray bottle at the moment, do it 3 times a day ( per I was told)... How long are you doing it for?

Fecal Description - I do not know if he has been tested but its brown kinda like bird poop

History - I have never owned one before, I was given him about one week ago... Have the eyes closed recently or did he come that way? HOw long did the other people have baby in this enclosure?

Cage Info: 3ft

Cage Type - a large rectangle, "Repti Cage" all Glass minus top it is mesh

Lighting - I do not know the lights, I was told at 8 at night to turn off the warm light ( color wise as its bright)... Are you turning off all lights at night? they should be 12 hours on 12 hours off.

Temperature - on the thermostat it is in the "OK" zone, I will post pictures to better help this meaning... It would be an analog gauge and these are very unreliable. You want a digital gauge with probe to get real temps. And you need one that does humidity as well to know the humidity in the enclosure.

Humidity - Mesured using a thermostat, it is 80 degrees right now

Plants - No I't came with some fake looking ones

Placement - It is high up top, sorta in a low to medium traffic zone

Ok so for now should I cut the cricket's to make them smaller?

I will do that schedule with the d3

I spray him for about 30 seconds until the gauge goes to the blue

he came with closed eyes, they got him from petsmart then the same day created his enclosure 7/26/2020

as for the gauge's I will see what I can do to get better ones!

as for the blub I unscewed it and I think its this one

Ok so for now should I cut the cricket's to make them smaller? I wouldn't. He probably wont eat till he gets in a better environment.

I will do that schedule with the d3

I spray him for about 30 seconds until the gauge goes to the blue. What kind of humidity gauge do you have?

he came with closed eyes, they got him from petsmart then the same day created his enclosure 7/26/2020 Petsmart babies get sick if theyre for a long time. I recommend getting a fecal done to be sure he dosent have parasites

as for the gauge's I will see what I can do to get better ones!

as for the blub I unscewed it and I think its this one- A normal incandescent bulb works good as well and are cheaper. Colored lights arent ideal unless you have the correct one. @Beman gave show you the correct colorful bulb, I believe she uses one. For UVB its going to be the first thing that you get. You need a T5HO 5.0 or 6% UVB. Its very important so he/she dosent get MBD.

Ok so for now should I cut the cricket's to make them smaller? No, you can not cut them they will not eat dead feeders.

I will do that schedule with the d3

I spray him for about 30 seconds until the gauge goes to the blue.. Try to spray the plants more then the chameleon...

he came with closed eyes, they got him from petsmart then the same day created his enclosure 7/26/2020... Ok So he has been under the incorrect lighting for a really long time. Metabolic bone disease is now a concern.

as for the gauge's I will see what I can do to get better ones!

ok so you have to get the correct UVB bulb Like this one in the 24 inch https://www.pangeareptile.com/store/zoo-med-reptisun-t5-ho-terrarium-hood.html
Baby will not last long in these conditions. Where do you live we might be able to suggest a reptile vet for him?

Start reading this link tonight... Every single module. https://chameleonacademy.com/chameleon-husbandry-program-getting-started-with-chameleons/

His entire enclosure needs to be changed... But first we need to get him healthy. So start reading through that link so you know what you have to provide for him.

is it possible for you to find the correct bulb on amazon?
also do we only need one bulb like the one you sent?
as the current setup has two lights

Yes, here is the 5.0 UVB. It will need to be replaced about every 6 months. But, they can be at a local petsmart/ petco. I couldnt find the correct fixture hood though so youll need to get one of those as well.

Yes, you only need one UVB and then you need one basking bulb. If you plan to have any flowering plants or colorful you'll need a grow light which you can also find on Amazon or the place @Beman posted.

as the current setup has two lights
Your current set up has two lights because one is UVB and one is a heat bulb.

Did you read through the husbandry program link I gave you? This is important because you have a ton of enclosure changes you need to make before this baby is too far gone and can not be saved.

Personally I would take the baby to a reptile Vet that has chameleon experience as well.

Amazon is not showing the one you would need to buy. Do you have any local pet stores they may sell the T5HO fixture and the 5.0 bulbs.
