Veiled Chameleon Colors ?

Can anyone give a disruption of what various colors and shades mean ?

I can not find any of this information anywhere , but it seems to come up with various posts, i.e. " Don't wear bright colors when trying to handle them " , " Dark colors can mean they are unhappy " etc. Is there anymore information on this topic ?

But really… Keeping things as simple as possible.,. Bright will generally mean they are excited, normal they are clam, dark = upset in a non excited way.

HA HA ! Aye I am a newbie at this, my first cham , so I am bound to ask some silly questions.

Haha, no no… That was a joke from a different thread. The chameleons’ colors mean things for sure. Each chameleon acts differently, with time you will know what colors mean what.

Don't over think it.

If your cham isn't an adult, it won't likely be all that territorial yet, and color challenges won't mean as much. But if it's a sexually mature adult male, I'd refrain from wearing blood red or royal blue or canary yellow even.

You'll find out for yourself what colors your cham doesn't like. I stuck my head into my veileds cagea month ago to do some cleaning, I was wearing a dark brown hat, but the underside of the brim was blue plaid.

I've never seen such a response from him ever before. He puffed up so big I thought he was going to squish his own heart, his colors went brighter then his sleeping colors, and he rolled and unrolled his tail while batting it against the cage side like it was his baseball bat.

Next time I showed him the hat by itself, just thrust into the cage to see if it was the culprit, that was the first time I saw him do an attack jump. ;)

Oops - just re-read the post - I thought we were discussing something else...sorry to derail

do they really have various changes? i havent bought my veiled cham yet, i wonder if they change colours a lot.

you'll learn what different colors mean. also pay attention to the pattern. i have a big male sunburst veiled and he gets black spots when he gets real pissed. when he's comfortable he gets a orange wash to his stomach area. honestly he has more of the color change ability than the panthers i have.

Like everyone else said, it's all observation. Kukui is a male...but when he gets pissed he almost looks like a gravid female, with the robins egg blue spots and all. it's kinda cute, actually. He hates the color purple. I have a purple comforter and I went to put him down one day as I cleaned his cage and he was pissssseeedddd at my comforter. I took the comforter off and put him on my green sheets and he was chill. Such a typical man, hatin' on the "feminine" colors. *sigh* lol

i am still new but my veiled adult male ( only had him almost 2 weeks) changes to very bright teal,yellow,green,coral/orange and will stay those colors with a variety of brightness sometimes you will see spots. When he is upset he gets dark brown outlined in black.
i was unaware that bright colors annoy them, my daughter wears read sweat shirt when she holds him so the claws dont dig in. he LOVES her and i wear a tye dye bright shirt when i hold him. LOL

Dark colors does not always mean they are upset, chameleons often get darker when basking to absorb more heat.

As far as I know

Green means the chameleon is feeling good and everything's alright ( and the male shows some yellowish pretty stripes )

Yellow/Brown means the chameleon isn't feeling good

Black means the chameleon is really angry

And in the mating season the males show nice color ( green/turquoise )

And at night in the dark when the chameleon sleeps its color becomes really lighter

And when it becomes sick it looks gray or greenish gray and really skinny and the eyes get inside the head

Also remember the better the BLOOD LINE the better the Chameleon. If you buy a junky looking pet store cham, chances are thy will stay dark. Calcium and supplements help with coloring also! Just buy one from a reliable dealer!!
