Veiled laying bin

My female veiled is finally ready to lay her first clutch I used this old butterfly cage do to her home having a thick carpet of Irish moss and ants that were bothering her this morning when she was attempting to burrow at the edge of her home. Shes got a solid burrow built now so everything is coming along smoothly but I doubt the eggs will be fertile cause my male shown no signs of interest he's either gay or just not ready. He was very territorial and aggressive in his cage and in hers as well as in the tall outside ficus they like to hang out in separately and on top of the enclosures and in the yard lol.

Don't let her see you watching her when she's digging.
You'll likely be able to tell once the eggs are dug up whether they are fertile or not. I would get an egg container ready in case they are.
I use shoebox sized Tupperware type containers filled about 2/3 full of coarse grained vermiculite that is slightly moist. To test for moisture, take a fist full of the vermiculite and squeeze it...you should only be able to squeeze out a drop or two of water.

You don't keep the male and female in the same cage, do you?

No ofcourse not they have their separate indoor and outdoor enclosures. I just added the round collapsible cage to the mix for her to lay in. Did you notice the bite mark on her back? The male gave her one good bite but its healing nicely and shes doing great. It's her first clutch so its probably better they didn't hit it off this time around anyway. I'll try reintroducing them in roughly three months or when shes tip top and fully recovered from this clutch.

During the winter yes, I made them visible last month hoping to get the male into gear. The female is very outgoing nothing really bothers her but hes a giant pssy very timid and shy just like every other veiled I've kept. I'll leave them in view of one another for the rest of the summer.

36 eggs in her first clutch. She did a great job digging these ones are infertile but shes looking back to full health and getting over a touch of gullar edema very quickly. It's all perfect timing my male is finally showing signs of readiness as well but I'll wait a few more weeks before I set up there next date.

Took her off vitamins just gut loading her insects for now and lighter than normal calcium until the edema is gone.

My Male is being alot less shy lately I've got their outdoor set ups dialled in perfectly I'm not looking forward to winter I need new t5s, my sansai LEDs are like new but nothing compares to natural sunshine.

Her outdoor enclosure is so overgrown I have to pull the new ficus leaves out of the screen holes every few days. She just recently began eating the leaves again after she laid. Shes the reason my males cage is so bare I switched them so the foliage could recoup cause he doesnt eat nearly as many leaves.

The calcium should have nothing to do with the edema and she should need the calcium since she just put a lot into the egg shells, etc and into the muscle power it needed to push them out. What is in the vitamin powder I the way of D3 and prEformed vitamin A?
