Veiled & Panther being neighbors

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a Panther chem from Petco. They're asking $300 and that's how much they are if you order it online, they cost $250 + $50 shipping. I figure I'd pick it up, it won't have to suffer through shipping.

I have a Veiled, he's not that people friendly, he is 4 months now- maybe he'll warm up later.

My question was should I put the cages together, like 10 inches apart? should I cover or put a divider, I know they'll stress each other put jut by looking at each other.

Should I introduce my Veiled the new panther baby? meaning, don't show each other at all? please advise. Can I at least introduce them for a minute or two? is that doable?

You'll definitely need something to block their view of each other whilst in their vivs, mine are about a foot or so apart, but there're shower curtains around the side of both vivs to help maintain the humidity and they also act as a screen between the two.

I would keep the baby out of reach of the veiled, when they're older if they do by chance get too close you can expect a reaction from the veiled as they can be quite territorial, especially since you said yours isn't very people friendly.

What kind of vivariums do you have, screen or glass?

There's really no point in showing them to each other than to cause undue stress.

Also, I'd be very wary getting a chameleon from Petco. They are notorious for keeping chameleons in poor conditions and feeding them a mediocre diet. The cham you buy could already be sick when you get it.

If you can get one from a breeder at the same price, do that. Even if the shipping costs you a bit more. Shipping can be stressful, but they only overnight them, and as long as you don't cause any more undue stress when it arrives, you should be good.

Most all of the keepers here would advise you to NOT get a chameleon from any of the large chain pet stores such as Petco or Petsmart. They do not provide proper husbandry for the chameleons nor do they give proper instructions on keeping them. They encourage customers to buy a lot of equipment they do not need. These stores are of the same caliber as puppy mills. All they are interested in is making money, not the welfare of the animal. You would be much better served by purchasing a chameleon from one of the site sponsors. Shipping is not that big of a deal when done correctly. The chameleon is usually shipped overnight. Most of the time they just sleep during transport. I have gotten 2 chams that way and neither suffered any ill effects.

Definitely would discourage you from getting from Petco/Petsmart. For that price, you can get quality Chameleons from a reputable breeder in our sponsor list. Panther Co can send you a Male, shipped, for about $250 and you don't have to worry about them having been cared for improperly. I have had all 3 of my chameleons shipped, and they're perfectly healthy. There should be absolutely no reason you should introduce them to each other. Chameleon's are solitary animals and very territorial. They should not come in contact with each other or even see each other.
