Veiled with MBD

I recently adopted this little guy from a petsmart he had been bought then brought back. He has severe MBD and broken limbs. He goes to my vet Friday morning to get more X-rays and to see what can be done to save his life. He is a fighter and is currently in a hospital bin. I have been giving him calcium and pain meds I received from my emergency vet. He is eating and drinking on his own which I find incredible. I am writing this post as a teaching tool and reminder to new chameleon owners that a proper set up and supplements are highly important and to show what improper setups and improper supplementation can cause.

Good job on your part to try to make it right. MBD can be fixed but it’s a long recovery and most people just let their animal suffer until it dies. Sounds like your doing everything you can do to help but I’m not experienced with this type of thing so maybe some members on here can give you some extra pointers. Good luck with him hope he pulls through!

No, MBD can not be fixed. The best you can hope for is for his bones to re-harden in place after a long rehabilitation process. He will be deformed for the rest of his life.

Okay maybe I shouldn’t of used “fixed” and used “saved” instead. I knew their bones didn’t grow back to normal and such so it is a permanent disability. Just bad wording on my part haha
