[/IMG]Hello,

My 10 Month old Male veiled Chameleon has swllen legs, can not grip well and does not have good balance. I have been taking him to the vet every 3 days for the last month. The vet has suggested antibiotic shots untill he gets better. Baytril 2.27% every three days. He is doing better than his first visit a month ago but i do not see a big differance. I have to force feed him bugs and baby food and give him water by syringe. i have suggested to the vet he might have MBD, Gout, or infection. I need help outside the vet. Please if anyone has any ideas what is wrong with my little guy i need it. Thank you.

Questions:
Baskting Temp: 85 Deg. f
Cage temp 70
Uvb Bulb 10.0
Food: Crickets, horn worms, wax worms, silk, and super worms
Gutload: carrots, kale, spinach, apples, fish food, strawberrys, and dry gutload
Water: Misted 3 times a day, slow dripper and now 2-3 syringes a day
Dusting: Calcuim with d3 every couple days, multivitumn every couple weeks, just added liquid calcium to his water in syringe.
Fecal: once a week and urite is white

I have also attached pictures of him and his swolen legs. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

It looks like gout to me. I don't see any sign of mbd on the pic, he seems a bit dehydrated may be. Dehydration may be linked to gout.

I'm gonna have to agree with this. Has pretty good posture even with the swollen legs.. Not hunched like most mbd chams... looks well fed.. I don't See any visual signs of mbd.. but off to the vet you should go!

carrots, kale, spinach

those are things that you want to take i easy with, specially spinach, witch along side kale contains oxalaccid which block calcium from been cosume, carrots can contrivute to gout

I am going to up his water intake. He also will only go to the bathroom once a week. My other veiled (his brother) goes everyday. I give him warm baths with pedalite. Attached is a picture of him yesterday.

I'm sorry to see that your little man is having a problem with his legs. Stop the D3. You should only use d3 at the most twice a month. Overdosing on the D3 could have caused this. I also recommend you find a new reptile vet that has chameleon experience if possible. Where do you live? I might be able to recommend a vet.

Should I up the liquid calcuim to his water? I live in Plainfield, il

I wouldn't add calcium to his misting water, try to get him drinking and drip it directly onto his lips, or if he'll gape for you try getting it onto his tongue. A metabolic problem like this won't be fixed in a day...it will take time to show improvement. It is also painful (crystal build up in the joints) so you may see him be less active and favoring the swollen legs.

I have been adding a couple drops of liquid calcium to his water and i have to give him water through a syringe. He will not drink it any other way right now. Should i stil be feeding him baby food? or should i just force feed him worms and crickets? or both? he is also only going to the bathroom once a week but his urite is white.

Read through this thread where the members here are recommending their chameleon vet. There's one in IL in post #8 and there may be more in IL if you read all the post.

You might also find this helpful. Sometime you have to drive a ways for a good chameleon vet. Mine is over 4 hours away.
