Vent trouble

He's still sleeping :D Nothing new though, thanks. Gonna give him another soak in the tub when I get home from work tonight.

Howdy DJ,

Looking back at your discription of the situation, especially the part about it not coming out when he pooped, I'm re-thinking what your Veiled is presenting...

Rather than the more often bilateral seminal plug pair, yours may have just one somewhat large, single plug that has its outside tip bent backwards giving the impression that it is coming from the other direction .

If your Veiled will allow it, you might go ahead and try to manipulate the plug-like material a bit. Squeeze a little just below the vent and see if this debris material pokes out even more. If it looks like it'll move, see if you can carefully remove it. I've removed them from many chameleons and so far, no adverse side effects. Sometimes they simply slide right out; other times the organ surface inverts outward as the stuck plug is released. A Vet may have more tools and lubricants at his disposal to more effectively and safely deal with this problem.

If this works, you can change your name from Orchidartist to Organist .

LOL thanks Dave. Rusty is a nasty SOB when he wants, but Im going to keep trying to get it out on my own...if not hes a going to his vet Monday!:(

Yeah thats what I was thinking, I didnt realize there were two types, I removed my guys himself and his organ surface did come out, he was fine though. He hasnt had any problems since then.

Update

So I managed to get out the sperm plug on Sunday, GAH it was one of the nastiest things I have ever done! The swelling has gone down considerably, but I am pretty sure there is a little bit left deeper in the (hemipene?) that I couldnt snag. I really dont want to probe his vent LOL would he clear it out the next time heexpells his stuff? Or should I give him another soak and see if I can get it out.
He was actually really cool about me yanking about his stuff LOL, I wasnt expecing that. I had one hell of a time soaking him, he ended up in my tub!
Thanks for your help,
DJ

Glad you were able to help him! That must have been one hell of a job, lol! I would hate to have to do anything like that to Amy - must need to have at least 3 pairs of hands!:D

I would wait a bit and let him calm down, If its way inside maybe it'll come out by itself when he poops.. But dont dig too deep, if i may say so. Even us humans are very sensitive by our mucous areas that can cause bacterial infections etc. Examples: Our nose, eyes, mouth and the "behind" :p

DJ i am glad to hear you were able to get it out. Ugh, ugh, ugh, I just would not have the stomache for that, but my husband could & would do it for me.:):):)
