Hi guys new to the forum just recently got a chameleon hes about 6-8 mo old now. I was reading some of the threads about how chams need good ventilation I currently have a arborial melamine wooden viv with 5 ventilation holes qt the back and can't afford to buy a different one. But I was wondering if I got a habistat cool control and habistat fan would this do the job for the time being till I find the money to get a mesh viv,

It really depends on your particular situation...the room, the viv size, temps and humidity ranges. So do you think you need MORE ventilation? Why? Is the viv too warm, stagnant or showing signs of mold or mildew? A small fan blowing across the top screen could pull enough air through a solid sided cage to help. You could also drill some holes in one or both sides to create more cross ventilation. Maybe you don't necessarily need a whole new viv.

Nope just read on a few threads that ventilation is better when housing chameleons. In the way of a vivarium it is a completely solid viv with no mesh at all. I've only had him for 5 days so No smell or milldue just yet. Just didn't want to harm him in anyway by lack of ventilation. Thanks for getting back so soon.

Wooden vivariums are fine and are pretty common here in the uk. I would definitely recommend removing the top and adding mesh. This would increase ventilation and allow you to place lights outside the cage, eliminating the chance of a burn if they are raised above the mesh slightly.

Ok thanks for the reply I live in Essex and just worried me that everyone was using mesh vivariums I will take the top off at some point at the moment I have a heat source inside with a cage around it to stop the risk of burning

I'm in the UK too. I have theVivexotic Chameleon viv. So it has the mesh circle for the basking lamp.
Anyways, I have since cut a 30cm x 30cm square in the middle. Got some wire mesh from Amazon UK, and fixed it to the inside.
Although my humidity and temps were OK before, it defiantly has a better quality of air flow now.

And the above was advised by someone one here... So thank you.
