i can afford the inital exam...but anything other than that im stuck. i have called every vet and in the event that she needs extra care i lack the funds for this. i have called every herp vet on the list in my area of florida. dr skaggs no longer practices in fl, she got married and is moving to ohio. what should i do?

In my opinion, I would come up with the funds for treatment or adopt out your cham to someone who can afford proper vet care. I assume you are talking about the Melleri? Most likely it will have parasites and depending on the kind of parasites sometimes treatment is not that expensive. Parasites can kill so it needs to checked and possibly treated.

I also suggest finding a way to get the funds to treat the chameleon if she needs to be. All of your chameleons should see the vet at least once a year for a check up and a fecal. Twice a year is even better.

i have thought of adopting her out. but that was before i decided it wasnt just stress or shedding that was taking a toll on her. i love her to death.

Its not too easy saying no to getting another one, but you really have to think if you can provide for them enough. Do you love her enough to let her go to a new home, and live a good life, all vet fees and everything? I think that you should try the vet out first. She what you can do, and she what she has. She might not have parasites, but usually its a long shot. I think that if you take it to the vet, the vet will be amazed at the wonderful animal that she/he might work something out. You never know. Just take it to the vet and hope for the best.

If and when you do go to the vet, make sure you go to one with chameleon experience or you will be wasting your money.

Yes it sounds like you could love her to death!!! I hate to sound harsh but you either need to provide the needed vet care or adopt her out to someone who can provide what she needs. Loving her is doing what is needed, do you want her alive with someone else or dead with you? We have lots of people who will take her in a heartbeat. I would take her but it is way too cold to ship her to Montana. Hope things work out for you and the cham.

Some vets offer a care credit card, the APR is outrageous but in a pinch it works. They pretty much approve anyone.

Please get your baby the care she needs!Return cans, sell copper if you have too. Our pets rely on us for healthy happy lives.

I would recommend you go ahead and take your cham to the vet and find out what kind of problems she has. Has she been ill? As jannb said do be careful about the vet you use because they will tell you that they will see reptiles and they will take your money but some of them know nothing about chameleons.

i spent the day calling around. found a vet well one of 2 to go to. and almost have all the money to go. and its the bf who goes cham crazy.....i was happy and had my hands full with my first 2..he has since become obsessed. so alot of my stress and everything else comes from the position im in. on another note i am in the process of geting her to a vet, however if anyone is interested in my baby please let me know. thank you for your kind and truthful opinions.
